Exploring Life & Business with Amy Nelipovich of Blue Sky Art on Wheels

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Nelipovich.

Hi Amy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a native Texan born in Houston, Texas. I grew up with an appreciation for art, music, food and travel.

I graduated from The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles with a degree in Visual Communications. I have spent the last 30 years doing just that – Visual Merchandising and all that is included – Window, store, and fixture design, capacity planning, customer experience, teacher and brand ambassador. I have had the pleasure of working for departments stores, specialty stores and big box. This has been a career that I loved, where I was able to travel the world, meet amazing people and share my creativity with others.

After living in various states across the U.S. I have come back to my Texas roots to start a business. Based in Austin, I have started Blue Sky Art on Wheels LLC, a mobile art gallery. The gallery features original art from local Texas artists and can been seen at Hill Country Wineries, Breweries and Distilleries.

I was inspired on an annual road trip to visit Grandma in Oshkosh, Wisconsin in 2014. This was a trip taken many times with friends and family and with over four hours in the car, there are always fun and interesting conversations. This particular year the question “what would you do if you won the lottery?” came up. Immediately I said, “I want to buy an RV/trailer that I could drive from city to city to find undiscovered artists. I would take the art and set it up in the RV/trailer and drive around to sell it.”

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
For the most part, it has been pretty smooth. Due to Covid in 2020, the company I worked for closed and I was out of a job. Someone asked me…”what do you want to do for the rest of your life, that you love and enjoy”. I took that question to heart and took the time to really think about it. Then I remember what I said in 2014 about an art trailer. I reached out for the guidance of an entrepreneur friend I had worked with in the past. Tossed this idea his way, and he loved it. I had no idea how to start a business so he guided, taught, and supported me the whole way along with my friends and family of course. It was a fun and amazing experience.

Like everything in this Covid world, it took a bit longer than I would have preferred to acquire the trailer, but once I did, it was easy. I traveled to so many art shows around Austin and outlying cities to find amazing artists and met some wonderful people. All so excited to take this chance with me. It has been the most humbling experience. I have meet so many people willing to help in all areas.

The best part is selling a piece of art and seeing the smile and excitement on the customer face along with telling the artist I sold another piece.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Blue Sky Art on Wheels LLC?
Blue Sky Art on Wheels LLC is an art gallery on wheels. Mobile can move anywhere the wind takes us. We are bringing art to the people this time.

The gallery features original art from local Texas artists and can been seen at Hill Country Wineries, Breweries and Distilleries. Currently, we reside at Jester King Brewery. The Founder graciously offered us to launch at Jester King Brewery and it has been a success ever since. I am so grateful. Jester King Brewery is one of my favorite places to spend time at. The beer, pizza, BBQ, goats, music and people are all so amazing.

I want to share with others unique, fun, and accomplished art that otherwise may never be seen. I believe this is a great connection for both the artists and potential buyers. Art is something that truly speaks to people. I remember the first piece of art I bought, I was right out of college and there was an art show on a grassy medium in Beverly Hills, CA. I had very little money, but I found the perfect unique piece that I had to have. The trend then began, I always had a passion for art. 90% of the art I own is original pieces from around the world.

Currently, I have nine artists featured. The artist will change and rotate through the year.

While enjoying your favorite local beverage, you can shop Blue Sky Art on Wheels trailer filled with local treasures. You will discover items to hang on your walls representing many mediums like wood, metal, acrylic, oils, watercolor, mixed mediums, and photography ranging from $40 – $500.

Every piece of art I own has a story and a memory that puts a smile on my face and warms my heart, this is what I want to create for others. What makes art good is passion – passion from the artist, that’s what I want to share.

Any big plans?
Since I just launched in December of 2021, my plans are to keep moving forward bringing art to the people. As we become more successful, I would like to purchase more trailers, turn them into art galleries and expand to more venues so that Blue Sky Art on Wheels is seen in multiple places, representing multiple local Central Texas Artist.

There is so much talent to be tapped into in this city. People should experience it, enjoy it and hopefully purchase an amazing pieces to have in their homes.
