Today we’d like to introduce you to Catherine Marte.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was moderately bullied growing up to the point where I turned out fine but scarred. So I’ve always wanted to find a way to empower people and help them through whatever tough time they were going through. In a nutshell, I wanted to help individual people be great. I wanted people to feel and believe they were worthy and capable and after some soul searching (and google searching), I landed on life coaching as a tool for empowerment. Of course, I knew little about the actual professional and I was knee deep in student loan debt so more schooling was just not a feasible option. I ended up paying for some courses and hiring a business coach to help me find my footing. I read tons of books and followed the advice of successful coaches in the field. I took beta clients for free and pestered my friends to let me practice my coaching with them. It was a long and rocky process but eventually, I landed my first paying client, and then my second and so on. With each client, I learned more about what it meant to be an effective coach and what I bring to the table as a coach. Fast forward, I now work with solopreneurs and creatives to help them put themselves out there and shine on social media.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Ironically, I struggled significantly with imposter syndrome and feeling like I wasn’t good enough. It took some time to realize I wasn’t in the business of solving people’s problems for them. My role is to offer support and sometimes guidance, but I am not responsible for other people’s success (however that is measured).
As you know, we’re big fans of The GoodLife Co. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The Goodlife Co is a lifestyle brand that promotes the eternal “work-in-progress” mindset. We are never truly finished growing, learning or achieving and that is OK. The GoodLife Co offers two coaching programs, including life coaching and business coaching for solopreneurs and creatives. We also sell planner-notebook hybrids to help you keep your life in order as you see fit. The planner is undated for a guilt-free experience whether you use it daily or pick it back up every three months. All of our offerings are tools for self-improvement without the self-judgment or pressure to be perfect.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Big thanks to my business coach who helped me push through the discomfort of being an entrepreneur. I also couldn’t have done this without the support of my friends and biggest cheerleaders who believed in me before I believed in myself.
