Today we’d like to introduce you to Jack Williams. He and his team share their story with us below:
Jack Williams grew up in South Louisiana and received his Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from Louisiana State University. Perennially one of the top-ranked landscape architecture programs in the nation.
During college, he worked as a laborer on landscape crews and then obtained his Landscape Horticulturist License as an independent contractor. He worked on various landscape projects in Louisiana. Upon graduation, he moved to Austin and worked with large landscape design-build firms as a designer and project manager.
A majority of his work is by word of mouth and referrals, which is a testament to his skills and accomplishments. When not creating meaningful spaces, you’ll find him traveling with his family, teaching or writing.
He lives in Austin with his wife and two kids.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As with many businesses, Austin Living Landscapes has encountered a few challenges along the way. Managing the company’s growth by establishing systems and processes has been one of these challenges. Going from a one-man show to establishing systems and processes for an organization is the latest growth challenge, albeit necessary to deliver for our clients.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Austin Living Landscapes provides design-build services for garden and landscape projects throughout the Austin market. It is our goal to create sacred spaces and beautiful landscapes from design conception through construction completion. With the client, our process is a collaborative effort to produce well-planned, meaningful spaces tailored to transform your garden or landscape.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
On the design side of our industry, we are implementing VR (virtual reality) workspaces for our designers to meet, explore and design in the metaverse. Our goal is to invite our clients into the VR space to walk through, explore and experience their new environment while in design phase.
The landscape and outdoor living market is enjoying the growth that Austin and Central Texas has seen over the past several years and will continue to trend with the population. We at Austin Living Landscapes will continue to use best practices for specifying native and adapted plant material and locally sourced material.
Increased density of homes also creates higher erosion concerns and depleted topsoil that we, as land stewards, must responsibly work with the land and homeowners to find suitable solutions for unique project challenges. Additionally, with climate change and wild swings in temperature, we have observed native plant material performs better over the extreme droughts and through deep freezes.
Austin Living Landscapes would like to add a horticulture services department for our clients as ongoing garden maintenance. There are several companies that offer lawn maintenance, but there is a need for fine gardening services in the area.
