Today we’d like to introduce you to Travis Hallmark.
Hi Travis, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I studied photo-communications at St. Edwards University here in Austin. After graduation, while working as a wedding photography assistant, I decided to pursue culinary and cultural work. Seven years later, I still work and shoot in Austin, Texas with a focus in documentary and cultural work. I am currently working on publishing my first book later this year.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like any entrepreneur, who is growing a business, it will always have its mountain tops and valleys. For me, I think I don’t look at the valleys as struggles but more of a learning experience. Which full circle gives me the tools to navigate new valleys when they arrive.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I think my artistic pursuit started when I stepped in the culinary world. I had the opportunity of working with top chefs, bartenders, distillers, etc., you name it I shot it. I built a large portion of my current portfolio on that work. However, over the last two years, I’ve seen myself more invested in the people rather than the food. This transition led me to explore other subjects (Rodeo, Sports, Musicians). One of my current projects started in 2020, is a cultural study piece on a small group of young bull riders outside of San Antonio, Texas. Having grown up on a functioning horse ranch, I felt a mutual respect from my subjects. This project is set to be my first published book called ‘Young Riders’. This will be the next big move in my career. It’s exciting stepping into a different form of creating and presenting work. I think what sets me apart is my desire not to fixate on a specific subject but rather present a story with my skillset.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Easy, swimming and fishing as a kid on our ranch. We had the Blanco river running through the middle of our land and we spent most summers sunburnt and in swim trunks.
