Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucero Navarrete.
Hi Lucero, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
If someone would’ve told my ten year old self that I would become a top makeup artist in Austin, Texas, I wouldn’t have believed it. For this reason, I have my mother to thank for introducing me to my passion, makeup. She used to pull out her makeup kit every morning and I couldn’t help but to be fascinated with the way her face features turned more symmetrical, bolder, & brighter. At that time, I was way too young to wear it, I didn’t get to play with any till around age 15. I used to let my older sister apply it on me and that is pretty much how I learned the basics to makeup. My skills got better as the years went by, it took lots of practice, patience, and YouTube videos to become pretty descent at it. By the time I was a senior in high school, I had built a reputation for dressing up and doing makeup looks that matched my outfits. That is why I won “Best Makeup” and “Homecoming Queen” in high school. Winning both titles brought me lots of attention. I used this to my advantage and began taking clients soon as I graduated. Majority of my clients were classmates or girls who knew of me from high school. Before I knew it, I had clients of all ages and surrounding towns booking me out every weekend.
Eventually, I ended up getting pregnant at the age of 19, yet this didn’t stop me as I was still taking clients up until the very last week that I was scheduled to give birth. I had my son at the age of 20 and when he was just two weeks old, we decided to move to Austin. I sacrificed leaving my family, friends, and loyal clients behind in hopes of moving somewhere with more opportunities to grow individually and as a family. Now here I am, 21 years old, with my son at my hip, and thriving in my makeup career like never before. It’s only been a year since I moved and I’ve built clientele faster than ever, I’ve had multiple celebrities recognize my work, my TikTok platform skyrocketed, I’m about to start school to expand my services and currently being interviewed in this moment, sharing my story with the world. I’ve faced so many obstacles as a young mother and makeup artist, but there’s no obstacle big enough for me to not overcome. I strive to make a name for myself in the beauty industry and give my child the future he deserves because I owe that to him. Always believe in yourself because you are capable of more than you could ever imagine!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth ride at all. It was financially draining having to move with a newborn while having to heal from childbirth as well as postpartum depression. I had never felt so vulnerable in my life.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a makeup artist, I specialize in glam makeup. I’d have to say that I’m known for my striking eye makeup. Whether it’s a graphic eyeliner, cat eye, smokey/neon/multichrome eyeshadows, you name it, I will execute to perfection. I’m most proud of proving myself that I can still achieve anything I set my mind to while being a mother. I believe that what sets me apart from others is my confidence in what I do, I am not afraid to show what I am capable of doing, I sometimes even surprise myself.

There’s so much to like about Austin, the nature, views, different types of cultures, opportunities to grow as a person and business-wise, the food, climate and around all atmosphere. Only cons about living here would of course be the overpriced rent and traffic.
