Check Out Anastasia Deasy’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anastasia Deasy.

Hi Anastasia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been interested in art. When I was five years old, my parents took me to the art school in Ternopil, Ukraine, where I grew up. I had my first exhibition with 56 paintings when I was six years old. I was just drawing and painting all the time and that’s when I knew my future would be connected with art. I went to college to study Art Conservation. I really enjoyed learning about art history and improving my technique in drawing and making sculptures. After college, I started work in a restoration company in Lviv, Ukraine and later, I received an internship with an American company in Chicago preserving historic buildings and sculptures. Conservation of art is a very skilled, scientific job that requires knowledge in chemistry and biology. After some time, I realized I was missing the creative process and wanted to draw and paint more. In my free time, I started learning more about tattooing and became an apprentice at Black Heart Tattoo in Chicago. For a while, I was working two jobs but eventually left restoration to focus on tattooing full-time.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the biggest challenges for me was to make a decision about changing my career. I spent six years in college and received my Master’s degree. It was hard to let go of all that work. The job I had wasn’t making me happy, so I decided it was worth trying something different. I left a stable job to follow my passion. Sometimes the unknown scared me, but I was lucky to be surrounded with a lot of support. And I’m happy with the decision I made

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a tattoo artist at Companion Tattoo in Austin, TX. I specialize in floral and fine line tattoos. Most of the designs that I do are custom and created to be unique for my clients. I like to draw floral designs because there are so many variations and ways they can look and flow with the shape of the body. Really, I love everything that needs thin lines and many details.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
I might sound corny, but I think it’s very important to believe in yourself and don’t wait for better times. All what we have is NOW. If you have an end goal in mind – start acting now, even with small steps.
