Check Out Jennifer James’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer James.

Hi Jennifer, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I was younger I always had the passion to be a performer, but being shy always stood in my way. I would put on talent shows for my family, write short stories, and was always creating something. I grew up in Austin, Texas where I started dance at Alisa’s Dance Academy when I was 11 years old. This is where I really began to grow and become inspired to break out of my shell and become a performer. When I built up enough confidence, I finally started acting and got my first agent at Page Parkes. When it was time for me to go to university, all I knew is I wanted to be in the film industry one way or another, so I decided to major in Film and Drama. Since my mum is from England, I packed up and went to the University Of Hull in the U.K. it was here I found my passion for scriptwriting, producing film and keeping my love for acting and dancing on the side. After graduating, I immediately moved to London and started getting freelance work on independent films. The more I got familiar with the process, I was inspired to set up my own production company. This has allowed me to produce my own writing, work with amazing emerging filmmakers, and learn so much about filmmaking as a whole. We have just shot the company’s third short film, about to start our first feature film. As I go into my second year of owning my own production company, I have decided to launch scriptwriting services and consultation services for young creatives to established companies to get in touch with me so I can help you create your next project!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has definitely not been smooth. I was officially diagnosed with anorexia at 18, a battle I was also battling with long before that as well. It made me fall out of love with dance and kept me to myself a lot of the time. Although I never let it try to stand in the way of me going after what I wanted, it did limit me to what I could achieve in some areas. I also have dealt with learning the ups and downs of the film industry, and yes there are many. Some projects succeed, others fail. The funding is always the hardest part, and some great projects will never see the light of day because of it.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an actress, scriptwriter and producer! I own my own production company, Double J Productions. I am so proud that I am able to create my own projects and share my passion for storytelling with the world. I’ve also loved how it has grown me as an actress by understanding all elements of the productions. I really respect everyone’s job and want to understand it the best I can.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Our short film, Blueberry Pancakes & Blank Pages, is my third short film we just shot that I will be bringing back to the states as I hope to pitch it for the feature film. My dream is to grow my company, along with getting to pursue my love of acting and dance.

I am represented by Nic Knight Management in the U.K. and MJB Talent in LA, California

I know this young lady and she has the grit and drive of a “Cattle Drive Boss”
(yes I’m from Texas!). At her young age she has already won awards and recognition for her work. She is a living testimony to what can be achieved when you keep on keeping on! When you have disappointments get up and keep trying again! So glad to see your publication recognize young talent! They need positive encouragement.
