Today we’d like to introduce you to Ricky Duran.
Hi Ricky, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up with my family in the Worcester, MA area. My parents were immigrants from Guatemala, and my dad was a working musician. He introduced me to music. He was always singing, playing the piano, or the guitar. He’s who inspired me to play music the first place. After high school, I attended and graduated from Berklee College of Music. After some time performing, I made the decision to move to Austin, TX. This is where I was given the opportunity to try out for NBC’s, The Voice. I reached a new level of popularity from that opportunity and got the chance to perform with one of my musical inspirations. Gary Clark Jr. Since the show, I’ve released a full-length album called Space & Time. I’m currently performing all of the states and continue to write and record to reach my fans.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been smooth sailing my entire career. In this industry, I’ve found it’s still all about the work you put into it and who you know. I try to use any life struggles as motivation and fuel for my artistry. If you listen to my latest record, you’ll hear all about what I’m talking about.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I love creating music and performing. As a writer, I’m known for not being afraid to be vulnerable and write lyrics pertaining to experiences in my life. As a performer, I’m known for my love for blues guitar and soulful vocals. I’m most proud of the work I did on my latest record. I’d say one thing that sets me apart from most others is my genre-bending style. I’ve gathered influences from all styles of music and genres.
What’s next?
I’m working on new music constantly and have some recordings I can’t wait to get out to the public. I’m also looking forward to collaborating with more artists and continuing to perform all over the world.
