Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Quintana.
Hi Monica, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
One day I was getting ready to go to homecoming and my cousin Christina was doing my makeup and let me tell you, she is so talented! She laid out all the makeup she used on my bed and I saw everything she used so once I started to work I literally spent my whole paycheck to buy every single item then I gradually started to watch YouTube tutorials and then finally I sat down and made my own video and my career in makeup started from there.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Some of my struggles along the way were my confidence, I found myself always looking in the mirror and comparing myself to other girls I saw. I always felt like I was missing a feature that every other girl had. I was so insecure for a while until I got so many compliments from many girls saying they loved my makeup and my skills. It really boosted my confidence but also to keep going because there’s someone like me who felt the same way and I can change their minds in how they feel by making these tutorials.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
So at the moment, I’m a content creator for TikTok, Instagram and Facebook. I’m known for the bright looks and blender eyeshadow. My well-known look would most definitely be my everyday glam. What sets me apart from others is that I’m myself all the time, in videos or in short clips, I’m always me, I do not try to change who I am in front of the camera to please other people and I think that’s a big thing on social media because half the ladies we look up to always have to put up this persona that they’re something they’re really not.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
For anyone who just started out I say go for it, if makeup is your passion set up your phone and start recording every little step along the way. I wish someone would of pushed me a little harder throughout my years starting off on YouTube, I always put people before myself and I was never consistent and that’s really key to working for social media.
