Today we’d like to introduce you to Ben Worley.
Hi Ben, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in San Marcos, TX. My parents met in college at South West Texas, aka Texas State. I was raised around music, my family sang songs and my father was a drummer and songwriter. By the age of 14, I was playing bass guitar and by the age of 18, I was pretty good. I quickly decided that I wanted to sing, play guitar and write songs. This was also the time that I was becoming a carpenter. I started framing houses and going to college at 18 years old. After eight years of going to Texas State on and off, I decided that building was the direction I was going to take. During this time, I had also started a band called Fire In The Pines, we recorded two records, “Heart of the Machine” and Wind Through The Barbwire”. We played a lot of shows, toured through Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming and did a short run through Washington DC. Since all of this, I met my wonderful wife Allison and we have an amazing baby boy named Blaze Elliott. My wife encouraged me to start my own carpentry company a little over a year ago and we have been very successful. True Custom Carpentry. We focus on high-end trim and finish out work in the central Texas region. These days I don’t play but a few solo shows a year. I still write and record music, but more for myself and the love for songs. We are currently starting to build our first home and have many dreams of hosting backyard live recordings, traveling, surfing, homesteading, raising our children, gardening and truly getting the most out of this life that we get.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My road has not been a smooth one. I’ve really struggled at times to keep my head above water and stay on the right path. I could go into detail but I’d rather focus on the future.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I started True Custom Carpentry about a year ago after working for 18 years for different custom builders, cabinet makers, and trim carpentry companies. We now specialize in high-end trim and Finnish work, with a focus on delivering a high-end product and building lasting relationships with our clients. How do you think about luck?
I believe in working hard and being persistent and passionate about what you do. Lucks got nothing to do with it.
