Today we’d like to introduce you to Lenisa Careaga.
Hi Lenisa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Mermaid Dream School started from one woman’s vision of becoming a mermaid, and her desire to share her mermaid experiences. My name is Lenisa Ann Careaga.
I became a mermaid in Maui for the first time in 2018.
I grew up with a passion for the ocean and water. Many years ago, I joined my high school swim team and pursued an interest in becoming a swim instructor. As a successful model with The Campbell Agency complimented me by my skillset in swimming and landed the opportunity to model for Mermaids on Maui’s mermaid tails. Seeing the kind of transformation, beauty, and confidence this experience gave me inspired me to explore the mermaid culture to the next level.
I entered a mermaid pageant as Miss Mermaid Texas and earned the prestigious title of Miss Mermaid USA 2019. I pursued many environmental causes during this time, including advocating for the ocean. I was then invited to compete on the international stage at Miss Mermaid International and placed Top 12 in addition to being awarded “Best Friendship”.
These experiences became the foundation of my strong desire to change the lives of others. After completing a certification in yoga and teaching students across the nation in meditation and healing remedies, I decided to open a school to accomplish these goals.
I hope to share the magic of being a mermaid and create everlasting memories for everyone.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting and running Mermaid Dream School hasn’t been easy, but having a positive outlook and pushing past the challenges has made it all possible. The costs of mermaid tails are very high, and starting off I struggled a bit trying to afford them. However, I used what I had at the time and I was grateful for it, because it enabled me to work at birthday parties and various events which made me so happy. I also was just starting off with my business and it was only me working all of the events for a while, which at times was exhausting. It wasn’t until later on that I connected with Texas mermaids to work for my school. After working so hard and having multiple jobs I was able to afford multiple mermaid tails, and now I even have tails for adults and kids to rent out or buy.
As you know, we’re big fans of Mermaid Dream School. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Mermaid Dream School loves to make mermaid dreams come true by giving children the experience of swimming with a real life mermaid. People hire mermaids from our school to attend birthday parties, events, and more. If you hire a mermaid for a birthday party the mermaid will create fun water activities for kids to play, teach them how to swim like a mermaid, learn some mermaid language, do book readings, find mermaid treasures and so much more. We also offer mermaid swimming lessons and mermaid photoshoots for those who want to be photographed in a tail on land or in underwater.
Our mermaid goal is to make the fairy tale come true through the magic of being a mermaid!
What sets us apart from other mermaid businesses is that we are very particular about the mermaids that work for us. They must love being a mermaid and need some sort of mermaid training that relates to mermaid swimming and mermaid etiquette. The mermaids that work for us must love children and enjoy being a mermaid. We do have mermaid training at our school if you want to become a professional mermaid. The thing I take the most pride in is seeing the kids’ looks on their faces, their little smiles when they see me as a mermaid! I love that they are so happy and it brings out my inner child.
I am also very proud of the Mermaid Dream School business logo. It’s something I came up with and had help from a graphic designer named Chris Whalen. The logo is mermaids laying in a cloud because when we think of the word “dream” we think of clouds and I wanted something to go with mermaid dreams. That’s why the mermaids are in the clouds resting and sitting on them when you look at the logo.
I would love the readers to know our mermaids care very deeply about being that magical mermaid for them. We love giving hope and imagination for a one of a kind experience.

Mermaid Dream School loves meeting new people who are interested in becoming a professional mermaid or merman. If anyone would like to work with me, and take lessons to learn how to be a mermaid, all we need is access to a public pool that will allow us to train. We would love for anyone and everyone to experience becoming a mermaid! We are also open to ideas to collaborate with other businesses. I recently did a collaboration with Pacifica Beauty to have me model as a mermaid to help market their vegan products. We have also collaborated with the Children’s Aquarium in Dallas, and many other businesses. Come join us, find your mermaid spirit, and have a truly magical experience!
