Check Out Taheshah Krejchi’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taheshah Krejchi.

Taheshah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey to Texas starts initially in Massachusetts, that’s where I fell in love with storytelling and being up to date on current events. I would watch the evening news and listen to NPR with my dad faithfully every day. After graduating college in Virginia, I made my way even further south to the great state of Texas. I loved it from day one and was living my dream as a morning news anchor and reporter in Waco at just 22 years old. I took a leap of faith moving to Waco sight unseen and literally had only $10 in my bank account. I always say I had $10 and a dream!

I was only able to make it due to support from my parents and extended family. Being on TV sounds glamorous but the pay starting out is not. In fact, I had a part time job at Dillard’s and I was making more per hour doing that, than being a journalist at a job that required a college degree. Imagine that!

After a few years, I moved to Greensboro, North Carolina for a new opportunity where I anchored the evening news. I helped create a new show before moving back to Texas to get married to my now husband I met in Waco. So I moved to Texas the first time for work and the second time for love.

I have no interest in leaving Texas again. I’m enjoying the new memories I’m making here and exploring the state even further.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road. Being a TV journalist oftentimes requires moving to a new place far from home. In addition, you have to work the holidays while you see pictures and videos of the rest of your family gather. Personally, those have been some of my struggles along with struggling to pay bills early on.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a broadcast journalist. I currently anchor the morning news Monday- Friday from 4:30 am – 7 am at KCEN on Channel 6. We broadcast in the Waco, Temple, Killeen area. My team made history this year as the first all-female and Black anchor team in the county. I am very proud to show up as my authentic self every day on-air. In my first year in TV news, I switched to wearing wigs to protect my hair, but now I wear my natural hair loud and proud. I love being able to sport my curls one day and the next come in with box braids.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Some resources that have helped me include the books The Other: How to Own Your Power at Work as a Woman of Color by Daniela Pierre-Bravo, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson, The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom by Don Miguel Ruiz. I also love to listen to Oprah’s Super Soul Podcast. And I love tracking my activity level on my Apple Watch.
