Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Robinson. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Sweet Limb – The musical project of rising creative Chris Robinson, Sweet Limb channels DIY artistry rooted in candid lived experiences and soulful instrumentals. Raised by a single mother, overcoming depression, independence, and perseverance have formed the pillars of this emerging artist’s life and music. Finding ways to fight through his struggles with the help of his gentle yet impactful musicality, Earmilk, Hip-Hop Since 1987, All Hip Hop, Hype Magazine, 24-Hour Hip Hop, Vents Magazine, and Studio Stickman have mentioned him for his enigmatic and creative music. Since forming in 2016, he’s performed at various Austin, Tx venues, including Cheer Up Charlies, Rain, Sahara Lounge, Beerland, Cherrywood Coffeehouse, Radio Coffee & Beer, and he’s been featured multiple times on 91.7 KOOP radio in Austin, Texas.
You wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth?
No. The music biz is only for some. Flakey people not showing up when they said they would, scammers trying to scam you out of marketing efforts, and not hearing back when you reach out via email for shows have made me quit multiple times, but I keep coming back.
Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work.
I do Customer Support in the Tech World when I need to produce beats and write songs in my spare time. I play guitar and keys and sing, but I’ve been trying my hand at rapping lately, and the people seem to dig it, so I’m just trying to show off my range and influences. My sound has been defined as chill, lo-fi, neo-soul, and hip-hop vibes. I’m proud of the work I’ve put out since I started taking this seriously and posted consistently on Spotify. My voice is raspy as hell, but the sound is smooth, and the way I’m blending my influences and genres – no one sounds like me. I pride myself on my instant identity.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
I’ve learned that sometimes it’s necessary to pause. Life had us moving at a crazy pace, and we were feeling the effects of burnout but not fully aware of how exhausted we’d genuinely been from the machine. I value quality time with family and friends more. And I’ve found it easier to be in the moment and appreciate the little things we didn’t get to do in 2020, like go out for Hibachi or catch a flick at Alamo Drafthouse.
