Today we’d like to introduce you to Camille Khali.
Hi Camille, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey as a model started when I was younger but officially started after I graduated college. I played D1 lacrosse at Liberty University, and it was an amazing opportunity; however, life after college was an awakening period for me. I needed to find my new space in the world, and I knew being creative was the ultimate path. After 8 years in the business, I have managed to walk internationally on runways and create jaw-dropping images with amazing photographers. I have even gotten a few credits working behind the scenes in the film in various roles serving as a production assistant to assistant director for a few short films.
Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
I have a positive outlook on life, so it may seem smooth to others, but it has been a challenging road. I’ve dealt with a few struggles deciphering who and what is a good collaboration. Only some people with cameras are meant to be a part of your brand. For example, my first time meeting with a photographer when I first started, I was robbed! That situation could have become a bigger nightmare, but thankfully my angels were working overtime. There’s No Doubt!
Outside of protecting myself from people with bad intentions, another struggle I’ve had to learn to maneuver through was how to best position myself to get paid for every gig. When I first entered the game, I thought it was like any other business – I provide a service or “product,” and then you pay me for my time. Unfortunately, that’s different from how it works, especially when you’re just starting.
