Hi Brian, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Brian L. Barbosa, and I am the CEO of Austin Masonry and Landscaping LLC. My life story took a complete turn for the better when I moved to Austin, Texas. I originally moved to Austin to pursue my doctoral degree in Physical Therapy. However, I started working at a stone supply quarry while continuing my education and learned a lot about masonry and landscaping. My older sister, Jessica Barbosa, runs her own Masonry company in Houston. I shadowed her and learned the ins and outs of masonry home building and landscaping. I was intrigued by it all and decided to start my own company. None of this could have been possible without the great support system all around me, starting with my parents. They have always had my back in any and every decision I’ve made throughout my life. Aside from them, I must also acknowledge my cousins, the best colleagues anyone could ask for. Working daily with each of them has made this career change one of the easiest and best decisions I have ever made.
You wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
As Theodore Roosevelt stated, “Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, difficulty. “We are now headed into our second year of business, and there have been quite a few obstacles. I played sports up until the age of 20. My dad always stressed to me that “great players always adjust.” That has stuck with me forever and has carried onto how I view things in my career. Every obstacle that we encounter has always been a learning point for us.
