Today we’d like to introduce you to Olive Okoro.
Hi Olive, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I started making content young! Whether it be making accounts dedicated to my then-current obsessions where I posted updates on animes or interests, I was fixated on making Tiktoks for different brands. I hunkered down on my passion for content creation this time last year, where I started with 3k followers and now have over 65k followers. I love creating videos and sharing how I grow in life with others. My friends and family have always been a big support system and aided me to keep on creating. It has been alot of ups and downs with my mental health for the past two years, but I am still here making art, and I will continue to make art as long as I live, love, and laugh!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Smooth overall, but it is a mental battle. I love posting and talking to new people because of my platform. However, sometimes, I became discouraged that I needed to grow faster or produce more content on different social media platforms. My loved ones try to take me out of my head, but I have to do the hard work of telling myself that I am okay where I am. The constant pressure from myself to be better than who I was or who I think I should be at this stage of my life destroys me multiple times a week. The self-pity is not cute, and I try alot to make my younger self proud of who she is and who she will become. The road is smooth, but I believe there have been some curves and funky ditches.
Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Hi! My name is Olive, and I am a content creator and a freelance model! I make videos online about my daily life, thoughts, and occasional brand promotion. I specialize in making videos about my life and sharing my daily outfits. I am known for being queer and having cute college outfits, in my opinion. I am most proud of my obvious personal growth in caring for myself while pursuing my passions. What sets me apart is my honesty that I am just a person with dreams and ambitions, and at the end of the day, I hope to make a difference and live a life I am proud of.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
To Calm Down! Olive’s life moves on, and you need to move with it. I cannot keep regretting the missed moments because I would have done it if they were meant for me. Opportunities are everywhere, and they are never in short supply, so I tell myself to pick and choose what benefits my mental health instead of my social health. Also, people do not care about what I am doing, and no one will lift me out of my pit of regrets except myself. I have to make my dreams come true. I have to perform for crowds. I have to run marathons. I have to make myself proud. And it is tiring, but that is what makes me human. Without living, there is no life. With trials and tribulations, my successes will be as impactful. I need to calm down, breathe, and make something of myself. And I will.
