Daily Inspiration: Meet Arson Nick

Today we’d like to introduce you to Arson Nick.

Arson Nick

Hi Arson, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.

Hello darlings, my name is Arson Nick!
I am Coastal Bend, Texas’ premier Drag King extraordinaire!

As long as I can remember, I had an affinity for fantasy and design. I was quite the tomboy growing up, so naturally, I gravitated towards male presenting characters.
I dabbled in cosplay as a teen, but I craved to showcase my own persona and display my art for the world to see. One night, I had my lightbulb moment as I stumbled across the drag troupe, Boyz of Austin. It was then I knew that my aspiration was tangible.
When I turned 19 (2021), I found out there was a show in my area so I begged the producers of Azul Entertainment to let me in and they gave me a chance! I’ve been performing in drag ever since!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being the first drag king from my area has been quite the unexpected challenge.
Making my own costumes was especially difficult as there are fewer resources for male-presenting entertainers.
And most recently, learning I was on the neurodivergent spectrum. The life of a performer can be strenuous on the senses, which I often struggle to manage.
Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work.
I am a male impersonator (drag king) who specializes in theatrical storytelling and showcasing the darker side of the creative process.
My work life when I’m off stage is what many would consider a “one man show”, consisting of; costume design, music mixing, prop building, and everything in-between.
I aspire to inspire, so I am most proud of the community that I’ve started to create. Using my platform to show people they are not alone has been one of my greatest achievements!
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
It hurts when you break a glass ceiling.
Success is never a straight line to the top, in order to achieve the next level you have to sacrifice something. Just before the glass breaks you are going to be your most uncomfortable, but if you’re truly passionate about your goal, the pain will be worth it! Trust the process!
