Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Williamson.
Brittany Williamson
Hi Brittany, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, could you tell our readers some of your backstory?
My love for photography began at 8 years old when I received my first film camera from my mother. To this day, I cherish that moment as the start of my photography journey. I carried that little point-n-shoot camera with me everywhere and begged my parents every weekend to take me to get them developed. Throughout the years, I was known as “the girl with the camera” that everyone relied on to take their pictures and document everything. While in college, I saved enough money to finally afford my first Canon DLSR camera and attempted to start my first photography business, BBritton Photography. I soon realized I was not in the right mindset and place to get the business off the ground, resulting in me joining the corporate world. Fast forward to April 2022, driven by a desire to transition out of the corporate world, I sought an enjoyable, flexible, and naturally fulfilling new career. During that time, I returned to my first love—photography. I established Beyond The Frame Photography LLC in July 2023 with my husband’s and family’s support. My business hit my first financial milestone in six months and achieved other personal goals. Alongside managing my new business, I’ve accepted the role of Contributing Photographer for Hutto Living Magazine, and my work has been featured in three other amazing publications. This early success has been a driving force in motivating me to stay committed to my craft! I am so proud that I followed my passion after my first failed attempt and the positive impact this decision has had on my two young daughters, ages 4 & 5.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Has it been a smooth road- well, for someone self-taught, still learning, and has never owned a business before, my journey has been surprisingly smooth, except for navigating my style and how to run a business. My main challenges were figuring out my business cost, marketing, attracting clients, pricing, etc.
Thanks for sharing that. Can you tell us more about your work next?
I am the proud owner of Beyond the Frame Photography LLC and the first person in my family to own their own business. I specialize in portrait photography in which my work has been described as bold, crisp, and vibrant. Since I’m still new in this industry, I’m open to all genres of photography until I eventually find a niche and my sweet spot. Looking ahead, my vision for Beyond the Frame Photography is just that- to go Beyond just taking amazing photos. I want to inspire more connections through the power of imagery while being a resource for non-profit organizations and the next generation of young photographers. I’m excited to see what 2024 will bring and the new collaborations and creative opportunities that will come my way!
How do you think about luck?
Whether good or bad, luck can play a significant role in one’s life and business. It can influence the outcomes and shape the trajectory of a career or the success of a business, but it’s not necessarily luck but fate and alignment. Fate manifested itself in 2020 during the COVID lockdown when I encountered a fellow neighbor, Amy Golden, who had just started her photography business (Golden Grove Images). At the time, she offered socially distant porch mini-sessions for families in our neighborhood. After receiving my images, I kept her contact information, not knowing that 3 years later, she would become one of my first influential mentors! It was luck that we met, but fate that kept us connected! I believe I’m finally operating in my gift/purpose and where I’m meant to be! In my journey of returning to photography, I’ve had the pleasure of working with or learning from many gifted photographers such as Noe Lozano, Deandre Acosta, Julia Vie, Eric Coleman, Larry Choyce, and many others who generously poured into me with open arms. I am very grateful for this new creative community in which I am now a part of!
