Today we’d like to introduce you to Claudia Geoly.
Hi Claudia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstory.
Aw, where to start!? My love for food and aesthetics began very young. I spent my summers as a child and through my teen years in Monclova, Coahuila, Mexico, where I was born. There, I was introduced to fabric, colors, spices, art, and being free to explore. In Houston, where I grew up, my grandparents were tailors, and I was exposed to various textures and bespoke pieces. The smells of fresh-cut wool, silk, and steam are great memories. I started my adventure and love for the arts at the Museum of Fine Arts and The Menil Collection, both in Houston. The funny thing is, I never thought of my time at the museums as a learning period but an escape. I am the eldest of five and live in Houston with no AC. The best escapes were to the museums.
I still remember the first time I saw Magritte’s “The Rape.” The painting blew my Catholic upbringing! I was hooked! The food part of my adventure came from experimentation with playing in the kitchen and my time with my Tias in Monclova. My tia Rebeca was the best cook ever, and I was always helping her cook. Food tied my love for all things beautiful together for me. Food nourishes your body and brings beauty to the table and beautiful things to your surroundings. To me, the food is the art, and your room is your canvas to showcase your food. From gorgeous linens, unique furnishings, lighting, and original art, I live my Dulce Vida. I live my most “sweet life” surrounded by things that make me happy. Having a space like ByCloudia, I can bring all that is fun and happy to my friends and clients. So they, too, can showcase what they love.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a windy road with pit stops and some bumps, but never a struggle. It may sound cliché, but the biggest struggle was getting started and believing in myself. My background is in food, not design or business. Why am I doing this? Why even start? Why even? I asked myself those questions to almost prevent myself from starting something that felt right.
I appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about ByCloudia?
ByCloudia is founded on the principle that your daily routine is meant to be enjoyed to the fullest. I believe in beautifying everyday experiences and living life to the fullest. Touching all the senses through food, art, decor, travel, and helping create unique spaces for my clients is what ByCloudia is all about. I source treasures for my clients. My secret sauce when setting myself apart is embracing one’s differences. There are no rules when bringing what you love or find into your space. What makes my curated treasures unique are the people and artists I work with; they are their treasures. If I had them, I would only learn something new and bring new eyes into my space. The brand I am proud to say that designers, artists, and like-minded people are getting to know me through my findings. ByCloudia.life is a place to combine all the components to help you discover Tu Dulce Vida! I offer home furnishings that have lived other lives and new, unique pieces for your home that are just plain beautiful. To date, you can find me on my Instagram, By_Cloudia, or my website, ByCloudia.life. I am currently working on getting a brick-and-mortar open in Austin. Talk about scary. It’s like planning the biggest party ever and hoping people show up for the fun!
How do you think about luck?
Luck lucked out; lucky me, I have luck, but it comes down to gratitude. Gratitude played a massive role in my life and business. This is my mantra.
Three ways to fail at everything
– Blame all your problems on others
– Complain about everything
– Not be grateful
I am grateful to all the people who helped me be me. Luck followed. Saying yes to opportunities opened doors.
