Hi Chris, It’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us. To start, could you share some of your backstory with our readers?

  • Name: Chris Max Instruments played: Stringed instruments, horns
  • Born in: Haralson County, Georgia
  • Grew up: Same
  • Current home/Music base: Austin, Texas, since 2003
  • Current band/acts: MaxBand, Chris Max solo and duo shows, VoxBox Vocal Band
  • Previous bands/acts: Hollowpoint, Rayze, Emerald City, Naked People Band, DysFunkshun JunkShun, LC Rocks
  • Areas/venues played: Most stages/venues are large and small. Southeast US from Carolinas to Key West, Tampa Bay to Texas, Northwest US, Japan
  • College/Education: Bachelor of Business Administration, Various brass, vocal, jazz
  • Vocation: Deliberate singing guitarist and studio cat, reluctant band leader, booker, live sound engineer, and “fix it” guy
  • Music styles: Like it all and influenced by it all. Hard Rock, Soft Rock, Gospel, Jazz, Country, Funk, and more
  • Current profession: Music and nothing else
  • Years playing music: Since I was able to walk and get my hands on anything that made sound
  • Show types: Planned shows with set list, impromptu live jams
  • Hobbies (if there’s time): Fishing, baseball, tennis
  • Personal quote: “Just like that.”
  • Why you love music/entertaining what you do: The joy of it all

Has it been a smooth road? If not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced?
It’s as smooth as you view it! The joy of being lifted by others and doing the same for them comes to mind. There will be failing gear, forgotten notes on stage, theft, and business issues, but there will be fabulous highs and endless kindnesses. Recognizing opportunities and blessings is key.

Thanks. What else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Pride of a continued full-time career in music comes to mind.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
It is how to balance between required work and spiritual fulfillment.
