Today, we’d like to introduce you to Lance Kennedy.
Hi Lance, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in Dallas, Texas, where my father was a megachurch pastor and televangelist. This environment taught me the immense power of persuasive ability. I witnessed a significant divide between people who act honorably and those who abuse their positions of authority while being around some of the nation’s most prominent pastors. My upbringing helped shape my talents and desire to do what is right and seek justice. I also have a deep desire to fight corruption wherever I find it.
After graduating from high school, I obtained my bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin, studied at Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law, and earned a master’s degree from Harvard University.
Following my studies, I joined the United States Army Reserve as a Judge Advocate and completed basic and advanced training. I then pursued a career as a prosecutor in the civilian world. Eventually, I was appointed as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Western District of Texas. Later, I decided to start my law firm, Lance Kennedy Law, to continue fighting for justice and use the skills I developed as a prosecutor to defend the accused.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Growing up, I faced several challenges that made preparing for college and my career difficult. I needed more guidance during this process, which led to much trial and error. Some may assume that I have had it easy because of my “privilege,” but the reality is quite different. The odds were often stacked against me. As a first-generation college graduate, I couldn’t rely on my family for guidance when navigating the educational and professional worlds. For example, neither my grandfathers completed high school nor my parents completed a four-year college program.
Nevertheless, I am grateful for my struggles, including moving to remote parts of Texas and dealing with federal and state bureaucracies. Life’s challenges, such as assisting my family through difficult times relating to my father’s health issues, have only made me stronger and more appreciative of the opportunities I’ve been given. That’s why I want to give back as much as I can.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Lance Kennedy Law?
What sets Lance Kennedy Law apart from others is the level of detail we bring to building a defense. We explain some of this process in Your Criminal Defense Battle Plan, which you can download on www.lancekennedy.com. As former prosecutors, we are proactive in building a defense from day one. We use every available technology to fight for our clients and create an optimal experience. I am very proud of the firm’s growth in less than two years and the hundreds of lives we have helped better. I can genuinely say that we are living up to our firm’s motto of “Get Your Life Back.”
What changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
In the future, we can expect to see more technology integration into criminal defense strategies, such as using advanced data analysis, virtual reality simulations, and artificial intelligence algorithms to develop case strategies. Along with this, there will be a greater emphasis on restorative justice approaches within the criminal justice system, focusing on repairing harm caused by crimes and facilitating rehabilitation for those who have committed them. Efforts to address systemic issues, such as racial disparities and socioeconomic inequalities within the criminal justice system, will also continue. Additionally, there may be an increased focus on mental health considerations in criminal defense cases, with greater efforts to provide access to mental health resources and support for both defendants and victims. Finally, I expect that Texas and the federal government will legalize marijuana and, hopefully, will automatically expunge the criminal records of those convicted or charged with possessing small amounts of cannabis.
