Conversations with Rita Almusa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rita Almusa.

Rita Almusa

Hi Rita, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I’m a female entrepreneur, master esthetician, and beauty content creator. In addition to that, I’m a wife and mother. Becoming a mother 8 years ago back in Seattle, WA, is what initially kicked off my entrepreneurship. I had been a Master Esthetician for 8 years already, but when I had my son, I wanted the freedom to stay home with my newborn son and also wanted to do something I was passionate about, which was skincare. It was also important for me to have a cruelty-free beauty company where the skincare was made right here in the U.S. Being a new mommy, I was looking for something that could be safe to use while nursing as well, and it made me realize how difficult it is to find. Through many years of research and effort, 8 years later, I have now developed with so much (love and care) our cruelty-free beauty company to offer many different products to improve the health and appearance of the skin. Our top-selling serums are one-of-a-kind, clinically proven, and patented ingredients. Throughout the years, our products have been featured in countless beauty subscription boxes as well as in Department stores such as Nordstrom. As of right now, we are available primarily on our website, MintPear.com, and Amazon. Something worth mentioning: now more than ever, we find it extremely important to use our platform and voice for humanity and donations. We consider ourselves active members of speaking up for human rights issues and making it easy for our customers to donate to those causes. This is a huge part of our mission and purpose as well.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have learned so many lessons along the way. Many lessons about trust, people, making hard decisions, and being able to prioritize. The biggest challenge our company faced thus far was during covid 2020. This is when all of our warehouses and manufactures literally stopped any and all production. This forced both myself and my co-founder (and husband) to return back to the corporate world for a stay-from-home income. There were many benefits of this as we were both able to find a position that aligned well with our skillset and what we were doing with our Company. We have been able to continue to bring MintPear back up to speed with these other sources of income. Which has allowed us to keep the business running through the shutdown/slowdown years.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’ve always considered myself a passionate creative person. I’ve always been creating something… whether that’s music, video filming/editing, makeup looks, fashion, or product creation. So, when I took on the task of product designer and product development for MintPear, all things aligned. It’s so wonderful when all of those passions and interests intercept and allow you to create true love. I consider MintPear a result of that love and creativity. It’s rewarding to love something so much, and in return, your customers (we call the MintPear family) love them just as much and also thank us for how much they’ve improved their confidence or self-love. It’s honestly such a blessing and a little magical. Even my YT channel was born out of that exact same passion of wanting to provide guidance and help to others.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I relocated to Austin about 7 years ago after coming to visit for a week and we just fell in love with the vibe, the city, and the friendly mixture of people. And having lived in Seattle (5 yrs.), and then San Diego (1 yr.)…Austin offered the best of both worlds… at a more affordable price (we thought until house shopping lol). We have since purchased two different homes here in Austin. The summers are tough, but as long as you plunge in a cool pool, get outta town for a bit, or just stay inside in the A/C… you can get through it. The mosquitos can be brutal too, but since moving to the Drip, we’ve had better luck with the summer breezes on the hill.
