Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Powell
Hi Heather, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Sure! I am actually from Austin and love the tight knit connections and longtime friendships that have shaped my life and my career. My father was a minister and my mother taught in public school and we have many deep roots in the community. My twin sister and I were raised to be of service to others from the time we could walk. My first full time job after graduating from The University of Texas was planning events for the Attorney General’s office, but what really became my career was going to work for Word of Mouth Catering. I had been a cater waiter for them while at Austin High, and also had my own business cooking for friends and family during high school and college. After 20 years of parties, non profit fundraisers, weddings and galas, I turned in my clipboard to become a mom, and began studying for real estate when my son was little. I needed the flexibility and loved the idea of helping people find their place to call home. My very first and best move was joining Roots Residential Group in 2016. We went to Compass 5 years ago as a team and I am now a principal agent with Compass.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s all about perspective! Every change whether it’s professional or personal creates it’s own challenges. I am the glass is half full type of person that can usually see the work and the reward. Having a mentor and group of supportive women have been instrumental in navigating all the ups and downs life gives us.

I specialize in residential real estate and love helping people find their place in the world! I love the uniqueness of each neighborhood and can easily understand people”s needs and wants in their next Austin home. Many properties in Austin are sold off market, and it’s imperative to have an agent who is connected and collaborative to represent you, whether you are buying or selling. Many of my clients are first time buyers who need guidance from lending to closing, as well as longtime friends ready to downsize or upgrade. I have a very direct and transparent approach and provide unparalleled service to help them achieve their goals. I am 100% referral based and have an solid network of resources, professionals and colleagues to create the best possible outcome for everyone.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Professionally, Never Split the Difference was an excellent read early on in my career. and it’s on my desk now. I listen to Mel Robbins on a weekly basis to help stay grounded in this highly competitive world, and really appreciate the humor and candor in Smartless with Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett. Having a sense of humor keeps me well balanced. I also love fiction and can dive into First Light Books in Hyde Park with a little too much zeal.
