Conversations with Lauren and David Corey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren and David Corey

Hi Lauren and David, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
David was born in Alice Springs, Australia and moved to the U.S. in 2018. Lauren was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and lived there most of her life. Prior to meeting each other, David was in the fitness industry and Lauren was an elementary school teacher. We were both going through significant life changes in 2022 and found our way to one another in Austin. What started as one show, (The Band of Heathens at Far Out Lounge) became a lifetime of music, travel, and love. The night we met, we shared our dreams of one day living in a van and traveling the country. We have both been avid music and travel lovers our entire lives, so once we came together we knew that we had an opportunity to make this dream a reality. We quickly realized that we had not only a shot at this dream, but a shot at the love connection we had both been searching for.

In January of 2021, we began to build our social media platform Sounchecks To Stagedives. As time has gone on and we learned the ins and outs of the industry, we focused our content so that it is both entertaining and relevant. Today, followers get music content from a variety of genres (but heavily EDM lately), interviews with artists, behind the scenes coverage of major festivals across the country, and vlogs of our festival experiences. Currently we are about 75,000 followers strong across platforms and love sharing our adventures with every one of them! We just got married only July 1 and the adventure is only beginning!

We’ve covered Electric Forest, Sol Fest, Texas Eclipse Festival, and Ubbi Dubbi. We’ll be covering Elements Music and Arts Festival, North Coast Music Festival, Cascade Equinox, and Wakaan Music Festival this fall.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Building our platform has definitely had some bumps along the road. When we began, we thought we had a clear direction for the content we wanted to produce, but as we worked on it, we found ourselves feeling drained and not enjoying it. Some friends recommended we join them at Breakaway Music Festival last summer. This was our first EDM festival and we immediately fell in love. The music, the community, the PLUR lifestyle, and everything else that goes along with the EDM scene captured us immediately. We knew we found our home, our people, and our new direction for the future. Although we don’t produce content exclusively around the EDM scene, it is a heavy influence. This one event inspired us to change course and highlight everything that makes this scene such a home for us and so many others.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We specialize in creating content surrounding music and travel. We are known for covering the events and experiences of major music festivals, bringing fans interviews with their favorite artists, and sharing the photos and videos we have captured of live performances we attend. We are unique from other content creators in many ways, but most notably, because we live full time in our converted van and travel the country from music festival to music festival. This allows us to be virtually anywhere at any time so we can fully immerse ourselves in this festival life. This opportunity is unique and therefore our perspective and the content we produce is unique. Another way we set ourselves apart is that we only post content that we have shot or captured ourselves. It is very important to us that we shoot the video, the photos, capture the audio, and take ownership over every step in our process to ensure that the content we produce is uniquely us and told only the way we can tell it.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The characteristic that is most important to our success is passion. We truly love music and the festival community. We have always been passionate about music our whole lives, but being completely immersed in the scene has helped us live our passion on a daily basis. This isn’t work to us, this is living. We believe that everyone should follow their dreams and being able to share this experience, we hope, is inspirational to others to do the same. Music has an incredible power to change people’s lives in so many ways so this platform is our contribution to expanding that to as many people as possible.
