I’d be delighted to share my journey with you. In early 2022, Off the Map was conceived as one of my ambitious experimental projects. It all started with my fascination for pushing the boundaries of digital art and technology. I began working with a powerful tool called TouchDesigner, which allows for the creation of intricate audio-reactive and visual installations.
Initially, my focus was on redesigning and building bespoke workflows within TouchDesigner. This phase was crucial as it allowed me to understand the intricacies of the tool and harness its full potential. Through countless hours of experimentation and iteration, I developed workflows that were not only efficient but also innovative.
Once I had a robust framework in place, I ventured into integrating auto-generative aspects. This step was transformative, enabling the creation of dynamic and evolving visual combinations that continuously reinvent themselves. The result was a series of installations that are not just visually captivating but also deeply immersive.
These installations serve as a convergence point for enthusiasts and tech aficionados alike, offering a space where art and technology coalesce. It’s a realm where creativity knows no bounds, and the boundaries between human input and machine generation blur, creating a harmonious and enthralling experience for all who engage with it.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
While it might seem that the journey has been relatively smooth, the reality is that working on something I am passionate about often makes the challenges feel less daunting and more like opportunities for growth. When you’re deeply invested in your work, the line between work and play blurs, making even the most difficult tasks seem rewarding.
Of course, there have been hurdles along the way. One significant challenge was mastering TouchDesigner and its complexities. In the early stages, I faced a steep learning curve as I strived to redesign and build custom workflows. There were moments of frustration when things didn’t work as expected, and countless hours were spent troubleshooting and refining my approach.
Integrating auto-generative elements into my workflows presented another layer of complexity. It required a deep understanding of both the artistic and technical aspects to create visual combinations that were both aesthetically pleasing and functionally robust. Balancing these elements was a constant challenge, as was ensuring that the installations remained dynamic and engaging over time.
Moreover, the iterative nature of experimental projects often meant that progress was nonlinear. There were periods of rapid advancement followed by times of stagnation and re-evaluation. Each setback, however, provided valuable insights that ultimately contributed to the project’s evolution.
Despite these challenges, my passion for the project kept me motivated. The thrill of seeing my ideas come to life and the positive reception from those who interacted with the installations made every struggle worthwhile. Working in a field that merges art and technology allowed me to continuously learn and innovate, turning obstacles into stepping stones.
In essence, while the road has had its bumps, the journey has been immensely fulfilling. The challenges have shaped the project and my growth as a creator, reinforcing my belief that passion-driven work, even with its struggles, is one of the most rewarding paths one can take.
