Today we’d like to introduce you to Claudia Alexandra.
Hi Claudia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in a small West Texas town with little opportunity to explore my musical interests. I remember being 16 and hearing Justice for the first time and being obsessed with the idea of creating a music duo with a girlfriend where one of us would sing and the other play a keyboard. It was just a dream that I never saw to fruition, but always held closely to my heart. Fast forward 12 years later and I found myself working at a dead end bar job but yearning for a change. And a big one. After meeting my DJ mentor in late 2022, I expressed interest in learning to DJ and he took a chance on me, showed me the ropes and then placed me on my first gig ever in the Summer of 2023 at a well-known music venue opening for other female DJs who I looked up to in the industry. And just from that one show it ignited a fire within myself to be better. I couldn’t stop absorbing and learning and mastering. I started uploading my mashups and edits to my instagram, really putting myself out there for everyone to see and the gigs started quickly rolling in.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Learning my equipment and the new softwares was the biggest challenge for me. I am not a tech savvy person and I’ve had sets that I’ve completely bombed and cried after, with thoughts of just quitting so I never had to experience that again. But there’s beauty in that: it’s learning. I have a lot of people rooting for me and I feel their embrace encouraging me to continue, and I feel it within myself as well. I’m my biggest critic and through all of this I’ve learned to be kinder to myself; this actually is my first rodeo!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I get the party started. I create live mashups of your favorite songs and take you down memory lane of hits you forgot about. It feels so good to see people smile and dancing to my sets. And I’m most proud of how much I’ve accomplished and proven to myself in such a short amount of time.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I never shied away from being in the spotlight. I loved to dance and sing at any opportunity given. I performed in every talent show from 2nd grade to 7th, and participated in my first pageant at two years old. I was always interested in extra-curricular activities in the creative fields, but my opportunities were limited due to our living situations. I experienced homelessness at the age of 14 and went to many elementary schools while growing up. But I think by participating in these talent shows, it was a way for me to introduce myself and my outgoing personality.
