Today we’d like to introduce you to Aysha Galvan
Hi Aysha, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
This all started because I had the best example in my life to never give up. My mother, she has gone through it all, trauma that you would never suspect because when you look at her she is most happy, beautiful, and the most grateful woman I know. Even after everything she’s been through, she never let it define her. That is one of the many reasons I look up to my mother, as she is a real fighter.
Once I started working and became a mom myself is when I understood everything she had gone through. Life isn’t easy, we have to keep strong, and believe in ourselves to find a way out. She taught me to work hard, to be appreciative of what I have, and that I am in control of my future.
I was getting paid $9 an hour at a clothing store, then $12 at a bakery and in both I gave you it my all because that’s all I’ve seen my mother do. It was killing me slowly as those jobs weren’t my passion. I was over worked, taken advantage, and had some racism occur at one of the jobs. Which pushed me to say no more, I knew I deserve more and I quit that toxic job to start my journey of becoming an Esthetician.
Another push was watching my mother’s job drain the life out of her and watching my mother cry from stress. It fed my NEED to become successful, I had to get to a point to where I can repay my mother for everything she sacrificed for us and how she was just a kid learning to be a mom herself.
I hustled to pay off my student loans working long shifts from M-F, then going to school at Ann Webb Skin Institute from F-Sun. After I finished school, I found out I was pregnant and give myself a year to take care of my baby boy.
Everything changed for me that day, that’s when I knew, I had to keep going for him. I started reading books about skin, watching successful esthetician business owners on YouTube, taking advanced continued education courses, and even started practicing on friends and family. I also took a solo esthetician business course from CEO of Aesthetics Academy, because I knew what I wanted and I was willing to invest in it. The founder of the Academy, Brittney James, honestly changed my life. I found someone who saw me, and believed in my dreams in becoming a successful solo esthetician.
My confidence grew, I have fought my fears, and I feel like my mother, a strong independent woman.
The best part of it all, is the time, the time I can spend with my son, the time I can give myself if I’m not okay, so then I can be okay for him. Becoming a business owner is not easy at all, it comes with a lot of sacrifices, money headaches, pressure to keep it going, but at the end it’s all worth it. I’ve met so many extraordinary boss women who inspire me everyday. I am thankful for investing in esthetics because the education is endless and will keep us improving. I was asked during a facial, “why I love doing what I do?” It’s because I’ve always had a need to take care of others, it’s my love language.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There were times I felt alone and that all I was ever going to be was just a stay at home mom, who doesn’t bring anything to the table. I felt stuck when I was pregnant and remember not wanting to take the State Board Tests to get my licenses. Eventually, I didn’t let those voices win and went to take my test pregnant and passed them !!
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Piel Artistry Aesthetics llc?
My business is Called “Piel Artistry Aesthetics,” I added a Spanish word to fit a part of who I am. “Piel” is Spanish and it mean “Skin” and the reason for Artistry is because I do more than just facials, I also do Paramedical Tattooing that helps reduce the appearance of stretch marks, scar revision, and I will eventually provide permanent makeup services as well. So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is, if my clients had a great experience. I want to know: if my clients are satisfied, did she or he feel relaxed, did I address their concerns? My goal is always to have my client leave feeling amazing and confident.
