Meet Sarah KJ Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah KJ Photography.

Sarah Enas

Hi Sarah, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I got started with photography back in high school but it seemed like more of a fun hobby. I kept up with it occasionally through high school and college but never thought much of it. Once I finished college I got a job as a social media manager and discovered that my favorite part was taking pictures of the products. I loved working with the lighting and editing it to make it stand out. As I progressed in my job I started to consider photography as my main career. So, I signed up for a workshop and met up with a friend who was already a wedding photographer to figure out if that was the course I wanted to go. I fell in LOVE with photographing people and figuring out how to capture raw emotions. From there I jumped in as quick as I could. I had to work multiple jobs when I first started but slowly cut back on those as photography took over. At one point I had four jobs including photography, so it was not easy but so worth it. It makes me so grateful looking back on how far I have come and how much my photography business has grown over the years.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not always been a smooth road. The wedding industry is always changing and makes you adapt to those changes. Also owning your own business has its own challenges. I feel like I learn something new at least once a week that I should be changing to make my business better. It can get very overwhelming when you do everything for yourself. I do not source anything out so I am constantly moving from one task to the other. It has taught me so much though and I am very appreciative of that.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in photographing weddings but I have grown very fond of the family sessions that I have captured over the years. I have a few couples that I have followed from engagement and wedding all the way to maternity and family photos. Those have been some of the most special sessions because I have the honor of watching their family grow and capture the moments that led to that.

Although, I can never resist a beautiful wedding. There are so many moments that happen during a wedding day that range from those grand gestures to the tiny moments that mean so much to that couple specifically. Capturing those moments is one of my favorite things to do. I know the weight of how much these photos will mean for years and years to come so I take it very seriously. I cherish every couple that has allowed me to capture their day through my lens.

I think I am most proud of the style that I have been able to develop over the years. I have worked really hard to find that photography and editing style that appeals to the right couples. I go for a dreamy and glowy style while keeping colors as natural as possible. I try to avoid big trends in photography because I want my photos to stand the test of time. While editing is a big part of my style, the way I take photos and direct couples is also a huge part of it. I do my best to make the session as easy as possible and make the couples feel like themselves because that will show through the photos. I want my couples to remember the fun they had during their session not having to hold an awkward pose.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I think communication is one of the most important characteristics of a wedding photographer for many reasons. Most importantly, communicating with your client before, at and after the wedding is so important so that they feel connected and understand what to expect with the photography. Communicating with other vendors is also very important so that you know what to expect during the wedding and don’t miss out on any special moments that need to be captured.
