Renee St Pierre shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Renee, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is a normal day like for you right now?
I work full-time as a nurse, spending my day caring for patients and supporting their needs. In the evenings, I enjoy baking, which helps me relax and get creative. I also make time for family activities, making sure we connect and spend quality time together.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Renee. When I’m not working as a nurse, you’ll usually find me in the kitchen with flour on my hands, baking sourdough bread and pastries. I come from a family of bakers, so being in the kitchen feels like carrying on a tradition. I love using local, organic ingredients and turning them into something warm and nourishing to share. Baking has become a way for me to slow down, connect, and create, and I’m excited to eventually branch out into extracts and other homemade goods once the cottage laws change. I am constantly trying to push new flavors and styles of bread and pastries to share with my customers and friends.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
The people who taught me the most about work are my parents. From my mom and dad, I learned that hard work is important for getting things done, but it’s just as important to enjoy life and always do your best. That balance—working hard while still making time for family and meaningful experiences—has shaped how I approach both nursing and baking. Baking, especially, feels like carrying on a family tradition, since my brother is also a baker. My biggest motivation, though, is my son. He inspires me to keep pushing forward and to show him that it’s possible to do what you love and create something meaningful along the way.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, there have definitely been moments I almost gave up. Owning a small bakery in such a saturated market can feel overwhelming—there are days when it seems impossible to stand out or keep everything running smoothly. I remember a time when I was questioning whether all the effort was worth it, feeling like I might be spinning my wheels. But then I thought about why I started: my love for baking, the lessons from my family, and my son, who motivates me every day. Remembering that keeps me going, even on the hardest days, and reminds me that pursuing what you love is worth it.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, 100%! I truly believe authenticity is what makes your business—and you—stand out. The version of me the public sees is the real me: a mom, a baker, and someone carrying on a family tradition of creating with care and intention. Sharing my true self through my baking allows people to connect with what I do.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’d say I’m doing what I was born to do. While some days feel like going through the motions, caring about people—whether that’s through my work as a nurse or through baking—is exactly what I was meant to be doing. Baking allows me to create something tangible that brings joy to others, while nursing lets me make a real difference in people’s lives every day. Both paths are about connection, care, and using my skills and passions to make life a little better for those around me.
