Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Larson.
Hi Ashley, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Growing up, I always had a devoted love for fashion. I always knew that I would end up somewhere in the industry. When I was 18, I got signed to a modeling agency in Minneapolis, this was really the beginning of my journey. I received incredible opportunities to be a part of London Fashion Week, Milan Fashion Week and so much more. I began to see the industry up close and personal, I started to work with designers, makeup artists, stylists, and photographers. It gave me insight on the different aspects there are in the world of fashion. As time went on, I started discovering my niche in the industry. I started working as a stylist at different places around the twin cities to gain knowledge and experience. Now, I am currently setting the foundation of my personal styling business by networking, being present on social media, and traveling to work with like-minded people. I want my personal styling business to be for everyone- any age, any size, any style. I want to create a space where everyone feels beautiful and fashion-forward. In addition to starting my business, I will be upcycling and reselling clothing that I have thrifted- from designer to vintage items, I want everyone to be able to find a piece they love. My journey has just begun, and I am very excited to continue putting the pieces together in order to fulfill my passion as a young entrepreneur.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest struggle I’ve had to face so far would be finding my own direct path to success. I decided after high school to attend college and have some more general education under my belt. I soon realized that this was not the path I needed to take in order to be successful. It took a full year and a half to understand that college is not for everyone. As a creator, it’s hard for me to stay motivated in a place where I am not directly fulfilling my passion. I decided to drop out and devote all my time to networking and building a foundation for my business. As soon as that decision was made, it felt as though a weight was lifted off my shoulders. It was scary at first to drop something society says you need to be successful – but once you realize the true potential in yourself, nothing can stop you.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am currently building the foundation to start my own personal styling business. My goal is to be inclusive to everyone and to me that means any size, any shape, any style, and any budget. I want everyone to be able to find excitement in the clothing they wear everyday – whether it’s for work, an event or just day to day life. Fashion is such an amazing way to express yourself, everyday you can express something different. I want to break down walls society has built and be inclusive to every person- there are no boundaries to creativity and that goes for all things including fashion. I believe what sets me apart from other styling businesses is the diversity and inclusivity I can offer. I don’t want boundaries set with size or style. I want to make people happy and confident by elevating their own personal style.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Confidence. I believe that confidence is power. Within yourself, you must know that what you are doing is right for you. Being confident in yourself is a key to staying motivated and passionate about your work. It’s a knowingness within your heart that you are on the right path, regardless of what comes your way.
