Today we’d like to introduce you to Avelino Morales
Hi Avelino, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Im was born in Paterson New Jersey and raised in Atlantic City. I’ve always drawn since a kid . I drew superhero’s and cartoon characters. In my teens and started to write graffiti. After High school I went to Art school in Philly. I never graduated due to financial issues and started working in the casinos for a couple of years. My artwork was discovered by a local tattoo shop who was very impressed and offered me a job , I quit the casinos the next day. I’ve been tattooing for 15 years . I’ve discovered painting and screen printing during that period and really expanded my art. My family decided that New Jersey was too cold so we moved to Killeen Texas, where I work around great artists at Black Heart Tattoo Collective in Harker Heights
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Rough!! The art industry is rough. Lack of support, people stealing my artwork or ideas , financially its rough at first but you must climb that ladder.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Im a all around artist. I paint fine art , I draw characters, graffiti, realism, clothing design, woodworking, computer graphics. Im proud that i can support my family with art. What sets me apart is my creativity, attention to detail, and work ethic.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
To live without risk is to not live at all . Its going to be scary , uncomfortable, and sometimes painful. That is what gives us character , overcoming the risky obstacles.
