Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey Rocket.
Hi Casey, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
At 11 years old, I remember seeing Crazy Frog on TV. I was enthralled. I had never seen somebody so confident. The lime-green eyes tell tales of an America that now seems like a distant memory. Within those eyes, laid an untold pain. Like tears in the rain, like a whisper in a dying forest, cried only for the nourishment of the impotent gods above. Yet, within that sorrow is a glimmer of hope for a better tomorrow. The leather cap is reminiscent of a bomber’s cap used by Allied forces during The Great War—the smooth moves, the smile that could lighten up a room. Here was a guy that had it all figured out. I imagined when he walked into a room, people stopped and stared. He commanded respect. Fast forward 9 years, and I was at my first open mic at Georgia Southern University. I was almost too scared to perform until it dawned on me: what would Crazy Frog do? I’ll tell you what he wouldn’t do. He wouldn’t saunter off like a wet dog in a corn silo. He would go up there and give it everything he had. So I did, and it went poorly, and it has continued going poorly off and on ever since. But some people seem to like it. Now, I headline a monthly show at Creek & Cave in downtown Austin and try to be as brave as CF was daily. I think about him often, and I donate money to car crash research every year in his honor.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road to success has been treacherous. Being a comedian is very hard on the soul. In 2015, I visited an abandoned property outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico, to collect quartz samples under my pillow to cure my tinnitus. Sadly, a coyote jumped out in front of my ATV, and while avoiding the animal, I fell 25 feet into a ravine. The only person who saw the accident happen was a significantly older man, and he did nothing to help me. He looked up, coughed, and then read his United Airlines magazine. He probably had stolen it from the plane after a flight. Fortunately, his daughter was a nurse, and she nursed me back to health over the following weeks and taught me to trade stocks. When the market crashed around 2018, I lost everything. So I self-published a memoir from the perspective of a 10-year-old Merchant Marine in 1950s Britain, and that lost *way* more money. I was penniless, but it was worth a shot, and I can’t blame myself for trying. Eventually, I picked myself up, dusted myself off, and returned to work. I still do not make much money today but am rich in experience.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a standup comedian, filming my first comedy special at Creek & Cave on December 29th and 30th. I have often been referred to as “the fasted man from Boca Raton” despite the apparent setback of not being from the area. I am also the co-host of the deviously sinister William Montgomery Show on YouTube and wherever you listen to podcasts.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Kindness. Bravery. Colloidal Silver. Extensive collection of Blu Rays. Impervious to small arms fire. Larger-than-life on the football field. Tenacity. Availability to relocate if the position requires it. Float tanks. Marlboro Smooths. Clean eating. Treating myself like I’d want to be treated. A large glass of wine before bed. A small glass of wine in the morning. Medium glasses of wine throughout the day. I have a “go bag” ready in a safe under a loose board in my closet just in case my past catches up to me. Happiest when reading a good book.
