Check Out Christena Mill’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christena Mill.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
From the beginning of my career in personal training or my journey into starting my own business? I’ll do the cliff notes version of how I got into fitness and take it from there. 🙂 I’ve been in the fitness industry for almost 20 years. I got into training after hiring a personal trainer in 2002, who changed my outlook on fitness, strength training and nutrition. I was about 20lbs overweight – went from a job where I was on my feet to a sedentary desk job. I was unhappy with the way I looked and felt, had zero energy, plus my eating patterns weren’t the greatest – I was still eating like I was in college! She customized a nutrition and workout plan specifically for my goals, I lost the weight, transformed my body, gained back my energy and life! That experience motivated me to become a personal trainer, I saw what it did for me mentally and physically and wanted to inspire and help others do the same! I started with 24-hour fitness at the end of 2012 – worked my way up from a Level 2 Trainer to a Master Trainer in 2018 and obtained four additional certifications ranging from 2 Corrective and Advanced Exercise Programming certifications through both NASM and Brookbush Institute, TRX, NASM Fitness Nutritionist, and Group X certified.

In February of 2020, I left 24 and ventured on to join forces with two private gyms – Gym Force (where I primarily worked with clients online and some in-person as well as group training) and RPM Fitness in Pflugerville. When the pandemic hit full throttle in late March 2020 – til September 2020, I was training clients primarily online. I stayed with Gym force til the end of December 2020 before fully transitioning to training full time at RPM Fitness until end of July 2021. During the last few months at RPM, I prayed to God and asked Him to lead the way as to if and when it was time for me to take a leap of faith and start my own business. Once I gave up control – things starting lining up and within three months, I had found a place, was able to fund all of my equipment, get insurance, and provide a clean, private, judgment-free environment for my clientele to train out of. It was truly a Godsend and I am forever grateful to two special friends and my clients who pulled together and helped me move in, cut/lay the gym flooring, and bring this idea to fruition.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’d have to say for the most part, it’s been pretty smooth considering we are in the middle of a pandemic, you know? But like with anything new and unknown, there are going to be hiccups here and there, learning blocks as I like to call them. Lol. How much do I need to budget for equipment, finding the right location/space, general liability and property insurance, keeping my books up to date and ensuring that I’m providing a safe and sanitary environment for my clientele and their health. However, I’d say the biggest obstacle has been finding the confidence from within to just go for what I want and not being afraid to fail. I prayed about opening up this studio for a good six months prior to, and with the help of a few clients and a dear friend – I was able to open up CMFitnessTX. It’s been a wild ride and I’m excited for this upcoming year!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Hi, y’all! I own a private one-on-one Personal Training studio here in Round Rock, Texas, called CMFITNESSTX. I specialize in weightloss, Corrective Exercise, Bodybuilding fused with functional training (training for everyday life ☺️), and am certified in fitness nutrition. I am proud that in the midst of a pandemic, I was able to open my own facility for my clients to come train at that offers a private and safe environment – it’s been a dream come true to be honest! 🙂 I’d say what sets me apart from is that I have over 17 years of experience in the fitness industry as a fitness competitor and personal trainer along with a corrective exercise background. Which is the understanding of anatomy, kinesiology, and biomechanics to address and fix movement compensations and imbalances to improve the overall quality of movement during workouts and in everyday life. Most of us have had injuries and/or surgeries that have set us back not only in fitness but in everyday life (myself included) which can be super frustrating! I wanted to be able to not only help my clients reach their fitness goals but also get them moving and feeling better without the pain – insert corrective exercise – combine that with nutritional guidance and you’ve got a solid plan of action! 💪🏼
