Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Decker
Hi Christina, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been entrepreneurial at heart, running my own businesses for the past 28 years and weaving my passion for writing into every stage of my career.
My journey has naturally evolved and pivoted over time. Born and raised in California, I went to University in Tempe, Arizona. After graduating I worked for an ad agency and then went on to start my own freelance media buying agency in Phoenix. From there, I had a blog, back in 2007, before it was even a big thing. Moving to Dubai in 2009, where I lived for 8 years with my husband and sons, I co-founded a sustainable enterprise that focused on designing high-end VIP products with sustainability built into every element—from the materials we used to our give-back initiatives supporting a school in Uganda and various social programs.
Owning my own businesses gave me a strong foundation in business strategy, which led me to consult on everything from brand management to social media strategy and influencer partnerships. My consulting work opened the door to ghostwriting and editing, managing collaborations for content creators and helping to grow their personal brands, writing/editing newsletters, and the most recent addition to my skill-set, serving as executive producer for a client’s podcast, The Cult of Flair. I work with each person differently, tailoring my support to fit their unique needs, while drawing from a broad wheelhouse of brand strategy expertise.
Now, in 2025, I’m carving out space to share more of my own writing and grow on Substack. I’m excited to do this while continuing my ongoing work supporting clients in bringing their visions to life. My favorite part of my business is helping others see their potential and giving them the tools and confidence they need to execute.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been smooth, but it’s always been rewarding! Building businesses and working in creative industries comes with challenges. Living in Dubai for eight years was an incredible experience, but starting a sustainable enterprise in a new market, back in 2011 before sustainability in fashion was even on most people’s radar, came with a fair share of learning curves. Navigating cultural nuances, shipping complications, securing reliable suppliers for sustainable materials, and ensuring our social initiatives truly made an impact were challenging and frustrating at times.
Transitioning back to the U.S. in 2017, I faced the challenge of reinventing myself professionally. Shifting to consulting for others and working more behind the scenes required a mindset adjustment. I had to redefine my path.
Another struggle has been balancing my need for creativity with the business side of things. As much as I love creating and strategizing, there’s also negotiating contracts, and managing deadlines – definitely not as exciting as the creative parts!
Finally, carving out time for my own writing and projects while juggling client work is an ongoing challenge. But something I have come to realize is that there is no growth in comfort. These experiences have made me more adaptable, resourceful, and passionate about my work and how it can positively impact others and myself.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I wear a lot of hats in my work, which keeps things exciting and dynamic. As the founder of Decktout Creative Consulting, I specialize in helping individuals and brands define their voices, tell their stories, and create strategies that align with their vision. My work ranges from brand strategy and advising to ghostwriting; offering social media strategy, editing newsletters, and serving as an executive producer for podcasts like The Cult of Flair.
One of the things I’m most proud of is my ability to tailor my approach to each client. Whether it’s amplifying an influencer’s personal brand or guiding a business through the nuances of strategic growth, I thrive on adapting my expertise to fit their unique, individual needs.
What sets me apart is my entrepreneurial mindset and my experience across industries. As I mentioned earlier, while living in Dubai, I co-founded a sustainable enterprise that focused on creating high-end VIP products with built-in sustainability—from the materials we used to the give-back initiatives supporting a school in Uganda. That blend of creativity, strategy, and a passion for impact has carried over into everything I do.
At the heart of my work is storytelling—whether I’m helping someone craft their brand’s narrative, drafting an email to pitch an influencer for a partnership, or shaping my own stories through writing. I’m most energized by helping others bring their visions to life while staying true to their authentic voice and by sharing unique perspectives through my personal writing.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something surprising that many people don’t know about me is that I lived in Dubai and that I’ve worked deeply in sustainability before it was even on most people’s radar. I have also been a clean beauty advocate for almost 20 years, starting back when there were only a few brands to choose from. I love seeing how that industry has exploded since then.
Another thing people may not know is that I have a certification in holistic nutrition that I earned back in 2020. I am a huge wellness junkie!
On a more personal note, my love for travel has shaped so much of my perspective, infusing my work with a sense of curiosity and openness to different ways of thinking and different types of people. Whether it’s an unexpected business pivot or a creative challenge, I enjoy approaching things with a sense of discovery. Everything is figure-out-able!
