Today we’d like to introduce you to Ciara Gordon.
Hi Ciara, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Well, I’ve always had a passion for fashion and I’ve had plenty of inspiration from family members and celebrities’ influences as far as fashion and entrepreneurship go. Kimora Lee Simmons, the CEO of Baby Phat, really inspired me at a young age. She was beautiful, a go-getter, and she was calling her own shots. I knew that’s what I wanted, but I didn’t necessarily know that would be the life I pursued. Last year, I made the decision that I wanted to invest in something. I wasn’t sure what to do, but I wanted to take a big risk. And finally bet on myself. I’ve had a job since I was 17, and after so many years of feeling unappreciated and undervalued while working for others, I decided to save some money and invest it into something I was passionate about. It really wasn’t a hard decision. It came to me, it flowed. I didn’t have to force it. & That’s when I became the CEO Of Fly Girlz Boutique.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It hasn’t been easy. I’m being completely honest. I was homeless at one point in my life. I was a pregnant teenage mother. You know, all the odds were stacked against me, but I knew God had a greater purpose for me no matter what I went through. I was hospitalized two years ago with a brain infection that nearly killed me, so after I survived, I made a vow to myself: I was going to live without any regrets, and anything I wanted to do or try, whether I failed or not, I was going to do it. It hasn’t been an easy journey , and I’m still on the journey , but nothing in life is easy. The challenges build character and self-reliance.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am the owner of Fly Girlz Boutique, which is located in Killeen,Texas. I sell a variety of items such as clothes, shoes, purses, eyelashes, and I recently added makeup services, which I will be announcing and taking new clients starting this spring. I started Fly Girlz for young women like me that are still figuring out what we are and who we are in this world. We like to look good and feel confident. We can grasp the attention of others without even trying. You know, a fly girl. I’m most proud of how well received Fly Girlz has been. I was surprised, honestly. I knew that I had a great personal style, but it’s different when you’re introducing your passion to your peers. You really want them to receive it and love it. No one wants to fail. I feel like me being me sets me apart from others. Nobody is me, and I’m not trying to be like any other brand. I choose what I like.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I believe my dedication and me stepping out of my own way play a big part in my success. It’s genuine. I didn’t start Fly Girlz only thinking about making money. I started Fly Girlz to share my passion with the world and I believe people can see that.
