Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Zuber Beiler.
Hi Courtney, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I actually took floral design in high school, but never thought about making a career out of it. When I got to Texas A&M, I planned to go into the medical field something that felt stable and secure. I figured I’d always have a job…until I realized I absolutely hate blood.
That summer, I took a floral design class just for fun and ended up falling in love with it. I switched my major, added an extra year of school and graduated with a BA in Horticulture from Texas A&M University. It was one of the best decisions I ever made.
After graduation, a few girlfriends asked me to do their wedding flowers. I said yes without really knowing what I was doing, but I figured it out as I went. My parents encouraged me to turn it into something more, and that’s how Cone Flower Designs was born! I started in the entryway of my house with no cooler, no work tables, just a lot of hustle and a little bit of chaos.
Seven years later, our garage is fully converted with a walk-in cooler, two backup coolers, four work tables… the whole setup. A full team, two delivery cars, White Betty & Black Betty. We’ve designed hundreds of weddings & events, built an amazing client base and grown a community of over 45,000 on Instagram and 35,000 on Facebook where we share BTS, floral tips and educational content for other florists + floral lovers.
I also launched a sister company called Simplee Cone, where we offer curated floral collections that are budget-friendly and easy to order! Perfect for couples who want beautiful flowers without the custom design price tag.
This past year was extra special because I got engaged and married to the love of my life, Cristian. He’s been a huge support behind the scenes, helping with deliveries, fixing things and keeping me grounded.
It’s been a wild ride to get to where we are today, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I owe so much to the people who believed in me early on my parents, my family and my friends. Their encouragement gave me the push I needed to take that leap of faith.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not! It has definitely not been a smooth road and I don’t think it ever really is when you’re building something from the ground up. There have been so many highs, but also a ton of hard lessons along the way.
When I first started Cone Flower Designs, I had no cooler, no storage, no staff just me, designing in my entryway and crossing my fingers that things would stay cold enough. I didn’t know how to price properly, didn’t have workflows in place, and had no idea how to set boundaries with clients. I was overworking, undercharging, and learning everything the hard way.
There were weekends where I thought, “There’s no way I can keep doing this,” whether it was because of logistics falling apart, weather issues or that crushing feeling when something doesn’t go as planned on a wedding day. And then there’s the personal side of balancing life, marriage, and running two businesses full-time. It’s a lot.
But every one of those moments taught me something. I started creating better systems, charging appropriately for our time and skill and learning how to protect my peace while still showing up for our clients in a big way. I leaned on my people my family, my now-husband Cristian, and my team and realized I don’t have to do everything alone.
So no, it hasn’t been smooth but it’s been worth it. Every mistake or challenge we’ve faced helped shape the business into what it is today. I’m proud of that!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a wedding and event florist based in Central Texas and I run two companies: Cone Flower Designs and Simplee Cone. At Cone Flower Designs, we specialize in floral design for weddings and events. We’re known for garden-style designs but even more so, we’re known for our transparency, communication and how we treat our clients. I want every couple to feel like they know who’s behind their flowers and that they’re supported the entire way through the process.
With Simplee Cone, we’ve created curated floral collections that make ordering wedding & event flowers simple and budget-friendly. Clients can pick from our pre-designed collections online and receive the same quality, same care but without the back-and-forth that comes with full custom design. It’s been a great way to serve a wider range of clients while keeping things efficient behind the scenes.
What I’m most proud of? Probably the community we’ve built. We’ve grown a following of over 45,000 on Instagram, 35,000 on Facebook and I’ve worked really hard to make that space educational and honest. I don’t just post pretty photos, I talk about pricing, boundaries, mistakes we’ve made, how we organize things behind the scenes and tips that help other florists grow too. My goal is to be the resource I wish I had when I started.
What sets us apart is how personal we are. I’m super hands-on with our clients, I treat every wedding/event like it’s my own and I’m not afraid to show the messy middle. People hire us not just for the flowers but for the experience, the relationship and the trust. Whether we’re designing a massive broken arch install or prepping centerpieces in the garage, I want our clients to know they’re getting our best every single time!
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned? Trust your gut 100%. Every single time I’ve gone against that inner voice, I’ve regretted it. Whether it was taking on a client I didn’t feel aligned with, underpricing a job I knew would be more work than it seemed, or saying yes when I should’ve said no, it always came back to bite me.
On the flip side, every time I’ve followed my intuition, even when it didn’t make sense on paper, it led me exactly where I needed to go. Switching majors, starting a business with no formal training, launching a second company or even walking away from things that looked “successful” from the outside but didn’t feel right I’ve made all of those choices by trusting my gut.
As a business owner, especially in the wedding industry, you’re constantly navigating people’s expectations, tight timelines, and unpredictable situations. Learning to pause, tune into what feels right for you and make decisions from that place has been a game changer.
Your gut knows. Listen to it. It’ll save you time, energy, money, and a whole lot of stress! Trust me!
