Today we’d like to introduce you to Dom Francis.
Hi Dom, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I never played music as a child, but some life circumstances led me down the beaten path, and out came songs. It all started for me about 5 years ago. That’s when the songs began to come. While I attended college at West Virginia University, I started to play the guitar to get these songs out of my head. I graduated in 2022 and moved here to submerse myself into a new hip culture and see what it would do to my writing. I am working with Rob Halverson on my first full-length album, which I expect to be out by the end of the year.
It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been relatively smooth so far?
If there had been a smooth road, I would have missed it (haha). There are many struggles, but I want to ensure you get all the details; we’ll leave it at that.
I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I create without a compass; most of my work is intuition-based, stream of consciousness. Let the song define itself with little interference. It’s like a child riding a bike for the first time without training wheels; the parent has their hands ready to catch the child if they fall but aren’t interfering with the act. My goal is to create lasting work. A lot of my idols have done just that. Bob Dylan, Neil Young, and Gram Parsons. You can listen to their work from fifty years ago; it still stands the test of time. I have released two EPs and am working on my first full-length album, which should be out in late 2024. You can catch me and my newly formed band playing around town. Say hi if you see one of our shows; I love interacting with fans.
Who else deserves credit for your story?
Alex Rhodes, Zach Cavanaugh. They exposed me to worlds I didn’t know existed. It filled up my soul.
