Check Out Emily Startz’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Startz.

Hi Emily, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
What is my story? I’ve been asking myself this for a while. I’m a recent widow again. I failed in my corporate career; I took my job too seriously and didn’t smile enough, I guess. I am now on a creative journey. I am exploring my artistic talents, both in painting and in creative writing in fact, I’m writing my first romance novel. I invite you to explore my journey as I go forth.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The challenges that I have faced over the years tend to be about relationships I’ve had with others. I’ve always known I was a selfish person, which is why I didn’t want to have children. But I have seen that it’s relationships both at work and away from work that I could’ve improved.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’ve always been a creative person. I guess my mother instilled that in all of us. I grew up being very involved in the community theater in Midland, and I went on to get a degree in theater at Skidmore College. However, as one experiences life, directions can change. Now 50 years later, I am rekindling my creative talents. I have an art studio in Houston at Sawyer yards, and I’ve had an art gallery in the Woodlands.

How do you think about happiness?
How do I define happiness? I guess it has to do with something inside. I find that if I have created something that gives me pleasure knowing that I created it makes me very happy. By the same token if I’ve had a nice encounter with someone, either a friend or a new acquaintance or even a stranger , that puts a smile on my face. That makes me very happy. It also makes me very happy if I’ve tackled something that was very difficult and I got it done, and that gives me happiness.
