Today we’d like to introduce you to Jade Hirtle.
Hi Jade, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hi, I’m Jade Hirtle, an Austin based mixed-media artist and new mom to baby Beaux. I grew up in Nova Scotia, Canada where I attended the Nova Scotia University of Art and Design and learned my technical painting skills. I lived in Toronto, Los Angeles and now I currently live and work out of my art studio in Austin. I had my first solo exhibition where I’ve transformed home into an immersive art exhibition in December 10th, 2022.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
If the road was smooth, I would never be where I am today. It’s the struggles that have motivated my desire to innovate, in particular mental struggles. Negative self-talk and not feeling good enough are big ones for me as an artist, especially when comparing myself to others. Tis’ the internet! I realize these struggles are my own fabrication, so I push myself out of my comfort zone in order to break this barrier and not allow myself to look back. Onward and upward!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My work gives form and feeling to something that is invisible in ordinary life: energy. I view unseen energetic vibrations as a powerful form of non-verbal communication—a universal language. Inspired by nature’s magnificent color spectrums and the science behind positive affirmations, my works are composed of precise geometric shapes, organic textures, and dreamy color gradients. I have shown my work globally at Art Basel Miami, Los Angeles, Saint Barthélemy, and Singapore. As a female artist, I am proud to have collectors from all over the world. I recently collaborated with beauty brand OSEA and their limited edition Undaria Algae Oil.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
It is the drive to keep pushing and overcoming any obstacle. I believe it starts with a mindset and everything else will follow. That is the concept of my work, I have to practice what I preach!
