Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenn Vigh
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started aerial silks 10 years ago after spending most of my time on the ground as a contemporary dancer. I saw aerialists dancing suspended in the air and was inspired to challenge myself on another level of strength and artistry. Down the road of my aerial journey, I severely injured my back while training in Las Vegas- herniated disc in my spine specifically.
While healing from this injury, Pilates was all that I was capable of doing, and it quite literally healed me. I have never had surgery or invasive treatments outside of physical therapy, pelvic floor therapy and a few regenerative PRP injections. I truly owe so much of my ability to train, travel and perform at such a level to Pilates.
This is where my business, Aer Pilates rooted from. I’m simply addicted to the combination of movement experiences and have enjoyed teaching this combination worldwide over the last few years.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not! I’m sure all entrepreneurs say this. As soon as I gained enough confidence teaching Pilates locally, I packed my bags and spent a few months teaching and training in Australia- mostly in Melbourne. At this point in time, I was still experiencing what I call “back flares” or a bit of a relapse in pain from sitting for too long or overexerting myself teaching or training.
It was actually in Australia where I developed the structure of a safe approach to aerial silks with Pilates techniques- which is the whole idea behind my business! I had just overdone it with my back, and quite honestly could barely move- that day I could barely walk- but I did make it to the botanical gardens where I laid on the grass- opened up my favorite book at the time- the Science of Pilates, and mocked up my first iteration of Aer Pilates.
I’ve also had some challenges in choosing a flagship location for Aer Pilates! Recently, I moved back from London, where I finished up my Masters Degree in Sports Therapy and had a job teaching for a lovely clinic called APPI. My original plan for the last couple of years was to start my first studio in the UK. But after careful consideration and a deeper understanding of the fitness market in the US, especially in Texas, I decided starting at my stateside home was the best first step to take.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I teach Reformer and mat Pilates as well as aerial silks. Sometimes I perform on aerial silks as well.
I have specialized education and experience around women’s health and Pilates like pre-post partum, the pelvic floor, and per-post menopause/
I am proud of how my life changing debilitating injury has led to the honor of helping others heal and excel in their fitness forms of choice! I also love sharing that my teaching journey has literally taken me all around the world to share this passion with anyone who wants to dive in with me.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I have always been free-spirited! Seeking adventure, stimulation and new experiences constantly. I liked climbing trees as a child, dancing and yoga.
