Check Out Jeremy Backwoodz’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Backwoodz

Hi Jeremy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I got into drumming when I was in middle school from drumming on my laps to metal songs to air drumming.I started off on what I call a ‘church’ looking drum kit something small and simple but instead of learning with one kick pedal I put a double pedal on there with out knowing how to play and I didn’t stop tell it sound good and fast like the music I was listening to. I got into my first live band in 8th grade and from there started playing small shows and getting a taste for the music scene . I kept the bands going around till after high school . I was in a decently big one getting exposure and started to play headlining shows a dream for any musician. Unfortunately things were going to take a turn for the worst . I got kicked out before I could play any big shows. I found my self at rock bottom from losing the best band I was in at the time to a amazing 8 year relationship . it was very depressing . I got angry at the fact someone could take all that way from me(music wise) .I either sat and did nothing while watching ex members and musicians play headliner shows living it up or I would start my slow crawl back up. I hit it hard !started to go by ‘JeremyxBackwoodz’ and I was able to work with a lot of amazing artist and musicians from Texas from country to rap/hip-hop , filmed music videos and did a lot of cool shows getting my name out as a professional drummer . after I grew some traction I decided to go back into the metal scene and see what I could do cause that was my calling . I did some fill in work here and there with bands to re-get myself back in the metal scene. soon enough I found some respectable musicians that wanted me to join up the band is called ‘mourning sun’ I was able to re climb back up the ladder playing good/headliner shows with them as well as taking all the connects I made with rappers and other artist and keep the grind going.I won’t stop music, life is a big mess and drums/music is the only thing that makes it make sense.-JeremyXBackwoodz

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Getting kicked out of a band u helped start up and having to completely restart in the music scene knowing absolutely no one building a following up from nothing and putting the image u have for yourself into others heads and making them take u serious . not taking no for an answer . Sleepless nights , thoughts of suicide but using it all to come back stronger.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have been doing child care for about 10 years now I have done everything from life guard/swim instructor to day care and after school work . I’m currently doing behavior at a middle school I run the focus program and manage 6th, 7th and 8th graders throughout there middle school lives making sure everything is going smoothly and being a roll model these kids can look up to .

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
You never really know what you have until it’s gone gang .
