Check Out Joshua Quinn’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Quinn.

Hi Joshua, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Animals have been part of my life since I can remember. In my teenage years, I developed a strong sense of compassion for animal life. With this compassion, I learned patience. First for animals and then with myself. Practicing patience was the beginning of my mindfulness journey. As a young adult, I saw an opportunity to be a dog trainer through a craigslist ad and jumped at the opportunity. After working for a major pet retail chain and then jumping around in the animal service industry for several years- I began independently training. My first client was a local veterinarian and with her support, my first clients were referred by word of mouth. On Aug. 11th 2017, Mindful Training, LLC. was launched! Since then, my wife and co-trainer, Toni, and I continue to improve upon our service of melding mindfulness and dog training in a way that can be taught to dog owners. Our aim is to empower dog owners to be their own dog trainers.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road but it has always been clear. Our goals haven’t changed since day 1 and that has helped us remain dedicated to our modality of service. The main struggle we worked through this past year was a drop in business. Word of mouth referrals are fantastic, but they don’t give the necessary numbers needed to maintain an independent contractor-oriented business like Mindful Training. In response to the drop in business, we pursued obtaining an online presence through posting Craigslist ads about our service, having Instagram, Facebook, and Google Business pages, along with our own website. We also began working with a search engine marketer (SEM) to create an online ad campaign. This has easily been the best way we became visible to the Austin area community at large. This is how we are often discovered now and it’s brought us consistent business.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
The primary focus of our service is to guide our clients on how to dog train. We educate them on dog training commands and tools that benefit them. We are known for being detail-oriented, flexible, and joyful. I am most proud when I witness our clients learning the material and when they begin to integrate mindful awareness in their life. What sets us apart from other training entities is that we teach clients how to be mindful as they practice dog training. Dog training is a great opportunity to begin or continue practicing mindfulness.

How do you think about happiness?
I experience happiness when I see health and wellbeing flourish. Observing a dog become less fearful, a person being more responsible, and witnessing their relationship grow healthier fuels me. When I see people care for the lives around them, it echoes my own love for life.
