Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Ahmad
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey into art started during a transformative time in my life—my pregnancy with my daughter, Aaliyah. It awakened a creative spark I hadn’t fully explored before, and abstract art became my outlet. Its freedom and lack of rules gave me the space to truly express myself.
Before diving into fine art, I spent nearly a decade in New York City working in the fashion industry. That experience taught me everything I know about texture, color, and design, which became the foundation of my artistic voice. Over time, my career evolved from creating art to building a platform for others—specifically women in the arts—because I realized there was a bigger story to tell.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey has had its challenges, but I see every obstacle as an opportunity for growth. One of the biggest hurdles was addressing the gender disparity in the fine art world. When I decided to transform my gallery to exclusively represent women artists, I knew it wouldn’t be easy. Educating people on why this matters and building a space that provides not just representation but also marketing and career support added layers of complexity.
Despite the challenges, seeing the incredible women I work with gain recognition and grow their careers makes it all worth it. Every success story reaffirms my belief that together, we can make meaningful change.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
In 2025, the gallery is taking bold steps to address the gender disparity in the art world. Women make up 70% of Fine Arts graduates but account for just 13.7% of artists represented by galleries and museums—a statistic that underscores the urgency of our mission. We’re challenging this inequity by expanding opportunities for women and female-identifying artists.
From hosting iconic gallery parties to providing education and marketing support that fuel female artists careers, our goal is to create lasting impact. One of our most exciting initiatives is The Inner Circle, a social club dedicated to fostering a community of art enthusiasts, business leaders, and supporters who champion women in the arts. Members will enjoy exclusive events like hosted dinners, member retreats, and networking opportunities while actively supporting female artists.
The gallery will also host more large-scale exhibitions and unforgettable experiences that showcase the talent of our artists. 2025 is about action—focused, ambitious, and unapologetic. By raising awareness, investing in women, and creating opportunities, we’re setting the stage for a future where women artists are celebrated and given the representation they deserve.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Empowering women in the arts is at the heart of everything I do. It’s about more than art—it’s about amplifying voices, fostering community, and breaking barriers. Art has this incredible ability to tell stories, spark conversations, and connect people, and I want to ensure women are part of that narrative.
This mission is deeply personal to me because of my daughter, Aaliyah. I want the next generation to grow up in a world where women’s creativity and talents are not only valued but celebrated. By creating spaces and opportunities for women to thrive, I feel like I’m contributing to a future where that vision becomes reality.
