Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathy Teeter.
Hi Kathy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We knew the owner of 402 East Street for many many years prior to purchasing and turning it into The Victorian House of Hutto. Each time we would go to the house, the owner would ask us, “What would you guys do if you had this house?” We shared our visions of turning it into a Bed and Breakfast or a small venue for micro weddings, showers, parties, or events. When she decided to sell, she reached out to us first and we all worked together to come up with a solution for us to purchase. We closed on December 31, 2024. It took 6 months for us to gather all the period furniture for the house. We checked facebook marketplace daily- but learning the stories of where certain pieces came from was worth the extra effort it took. As long time residents of Hutto our initiative was to preserve a piece of Hutto’s history but also enhance the community by providing a beautiful space for celebrations and gatherings. The City of Hutto has embraced our venture and we are hopeful that the venue will become a beloved landmark for both locals and visitors alike, offering elegance and intimacy for many years to come.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was not smooth, and we are still working on a couple struggles. We had to do some foundation work and quite a bit of interior design both in the main house and the carriage barn to make it authentic. It seems that we are always coming up with more and more things to upgrade and enhance what we have to make it all that it can and should be. As all businesses in their first year, money if a factor. We have definitely put more into the property than we are getting out of it- but we know that it will all pay off.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Nestled in the heart of downtown Hutto, our charming small venue is now open for bookings, offering a perfect setting for intimate gatherings, events, and celebrations. The space is designed with flexibility in mind, allowing for customizable layouts to suit your event’s specific needs, to include bringing your own vendors. Me and my husband, Mike, are both very service oriented, putting a high priority helping make events memorable. We have priced the venue to be very affordable at only $125 an hour with a 4 hr minimum. I think what sets us apart from other venues is that we are small- perfect for making intimate memories. We are very proud of how we have preserved and decorated the house to fit the period. There is amazing woodwork inside and charm every where you look. The carriage barn is climate controlled and for weddings there is an option for overnight accommodations with a bridal suite.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I would say our highest characteristic is Integrity. Me and Mike were both in the military and we have a successful Real Estate and Property Management company that was built on integrity and communication for the last 20 years. We work well together and it has allowed us to master self discipline and confidence in whatever we set out to do.
