Check Out Kiowa Madrid’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiowa Madrid.

Hi Kiowa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up around antiques—my grandparents and parents used to take me to garage sales, estate sales, flea markets, and antique shops. I’ve been picking up furniture off the side of the road and repurposing it since I was a kid. Once I had a little money of my own, I started going to estate sales by myself, and that’s actually how I met Mike and Luisa from Vintique of Taylor.
I started out as a cashier with them and eventually became their right hand WOman. We worked estate sales, auctions, clean-outs—you name it. I helped run the store, decorated, designed and even helped open a second location in Taylor. After doing that for a few years, I realized: if I can do all this for someone else, I can do it for myself.
The opportunity came when a storefront opened up at the storage facility where I had a unit. It was fully finished and ready to go—I got lucky, honestly. I’ve had my store since August, and I’ve been running it mostly on my own, with a lot of help and support from my amazing friends, family, and vendors.
Being from Hutto, I wanted to bring something unique to the community—something we didn’t already have. Hutto needed more places to shop, and I knew I could create a space that was fun, approachable, and a little different!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but it’s been a rewarding one. When you run a business mostly on your own, you learn pretty quickly how to juggle everything—from cleaning and organizing, to running the register, designing displays, keeping up with social media, and managing vendors. I wear all the hats, and somehow still manage to be a functioning 26-year-old outside of work (most days, anyway!).
One of the challenges has been location—we’re not right in the center of town, so we really rely on advertising, social media, and word of mouth to bring new shoppers through the door. But every time someone new finds us and gets excited about the space, it’s worth it. I’ve learned a lot, and I’m proud of how far it’s come already.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Along with running my antique store, I’m also a graphic designer—and that side of my work plays a huge role in everything I do. I created every piece of branding for my shop myself—my logo, store signage, business cards, website, social media graphics, flyers, everything.
I’ve also done design work for other small businesses in the area, including projects for Vintique in Taylor and even the wrap for the 18-wheeler band trailer in Hutto. I love helping other business owners bring their vision to life, whether that’s with a clean logo or a full set of marketing materials.
What I’m most proud of is how much of me is in everything I do. My store isn’t just a collection of antiques—it’s a fully designed experience. From the color choices to the signage to the vibe itself, it all connects back to my background in design and my passion for creating something that feels different. That’s what really sets me apart.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I might be young, but I’m running my own business — and that’s something I’m really proud of. You don’t have to wait for the “perfect time” or have it all figured out to start doing your own thing. If you’ve got an idea and the drive, go for it. It’s not always easy, but it’s worth it to build something that’s yours.
