Check Out Leila Valchar’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leila Valchar. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Leila Valchar
In the heart of Downtown Belton, amidst a quiet and often-overlooked street, stands a 6,000 sq ft building that holds a world of dreams within its walls. It’s September 2023, and “My Giving Tree Gift Shop & Gallery” is thriving. In January 2011, Leila, the owner and a true believer in the power of giving, turned her lifelong dream into a reality by establishing this remarkable store. Back then, Downtown Belton was far from bustling, with only a few businesses trying to make their mark. The street where Leila’s building stood was a place that few ventured down, and even the neighboring coffee shop only opened its doors once a week for a brief few hours. But Leila was not deterred by the calm; she possessed unwavering faith and a visionary spirit, not just for her store but for the entire potential of downtown Belton.
Leila’s journey has been one of absolute faith and relentless dedication. She made great sacrifices to breathe life into her vision and, along the way, uplifted the community she had grown to love. With boundless energy and a passion for promoting downtown Belton, she was asked to take over a small event on the brink of extinction and formed a nonprofit organization that has transformed it into an award-winning artisan market. It quickly became a cherished gathering, bringing both locals and visitors together. Leila has also created several other events such as Downtown Belton’s Candy Trail and the Annual Easter Egg Hunt around the Courthouse that are enjoyed by thousands of kids. She has developed a Facebook page that promotes other businesses and community events with nearly 19,000 followers. Yet, Leila’s giving spirit extends far beyond what she does for the community. She surprises her customers with an unexpected gift as they make a purchase. It’s her way of sharing the joy and kindness she deeply believes in.
“My Giving Tree” is no ordinary shop. It’s a Texas gem, a testament to Leila’s dedication and love for unique and handcrafted treasures. The store is a treasure trove of unique gifts, fine jewelry, one-of-a-kind handmade pieces, exquisite paintings, and wood and bronze sculptures. Shelves are adorned with gourmet foods and pottery, proudly made in the heart of Texas. Most importantly, Leila makes it a point to source most of her items from within Texas and the USA, supporting local artisans and businesses.
Over the years, the branches of My Giving Tree have grown, Leila’s twin daughters, the youngest of her family, now run a store on the other side of the building, aptly named “Imeraki.” They pursue their passion for fashion, catering to both men and women, creating a vibrant synergy with their mother’s vision. In the end, Leila’s My Giving Tree Gift Shop & Gallery is more than just a place to buy gifts; it’s a testament to the power of dreams, hard work, and the belief that giving, in all its forms, can transform not only a business but an entire community. And as the years roll by, Downtown Belton has blossomed, along with a little help from one remarkable woman’s faith, determination, and giving spirit.
