Check Out Lindsay Dietsch’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Dietsch.

Hi Lindsay, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I found my passion for floral design sort of by accident, taking an intro course on a whim at Texas A&M, I fell in love with all things in the horticulture field. My first job out of college was at a well-known Highland Park based flower shop, Dr Delphinium, where I learned a great deal about flowers themselves, design mechanics, and working one on one with customers to create unique designs quickly and efficiently. Five years later, my husband David and I welcomed our daughter into the world and I wanted to stay home with her and be close to family so we moved to Temple, TX to do that. In October of 2018 I started my own business, Botanical Jane. Jane is my mom’s middle name as well as my daughters so it just felt right. The beauty, wonder and innocence of a child exploring nature and being in awe of living things. Business has slowly grown over the years, we’ve added more babies in the mix so it’s a crazy loud life and I get to resort in my garage studio, get in my head, and create floral pieces for weddings and life events.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
My biggest challenge is wearing all the hats! I am the designer, marketing manager, accountant, proposal writer… and the list goes on. Owning your own business has the best advantages but also is on your mind and heart all day. I don’t leave the shop and come to work the following day, it’s a part of me and who I am. While I’m exploring outside with my kids, chasing them on the bike I’m also ready to follow up with a client or respond to an inquiry. My business is still so new, I’m constantly learning and researching ways to streamline my processes and operations and trying new ways to design.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Creating floral pieces and working with a live medium that has movement and a life of its own is very stimulating and a challenge at times. I always try to use a wide variety of blooms that people may have never seen or considered before which makes for pieces with depth and interest beyond just a pretty flower. When thinking about your wedding or event, I’m considering the mood you want to create. Color, texture and design style come into play to bring those things to life.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most recent lesson I’ve learned and had to remind myself constantly is that my time is valuable and I can’t be a yes person in every situation, which kills me. I am very much a people-pleaser and kind of thrive on bending over backwards to make things happen but as I’ve gotten older I’ve learned I’m not quite as flexible as I used to be. Being a small business, I can’t take every wedding and event that comes my way if it’s not worth my time and effort. I’ve also realized as of late that I can’t do it all on my own. I want to be attentive and at the ready at all times for my clients and I also want to be engaged and interact with intention with my kids and husband, it’s hard to balance and juggle all of those things so getting help on set up days or with production is the direction I have to go to sustain myself and my business.
