Today we’d like to introduce you to Margarita Sanchez.
Hi Margarita, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Wow! Not sure how to start. I feel like at this point there’s no specific thing I could call myself or what exactly I am just because I love doing all these things at once or individually. An artist? A content creator? A fashionista? Mua? To be honest I’m just doing what makes me happy within myself and putting my given creativity out there. I was born and raised in Austin TX and lived here all my life. When I was younger or even before I always did things on my own not because no one was around but because I’ve always been independent and also because I knew I was always such a creative child always creating new things and coming up with ideas out the blue. I started I would say when I was maybe around 9-10 years old when I started to discover myself a little more and put my creativity to use, I used to Constantly put on the best outfit I could put together with what I had or what my parents would buy for me and take pictures with my disposable camera and later on get them developed and created this entire picture wall in my room. Other times I will find spots that had great views for a photo and get the right outfit to match the ‘aesthetic’ and snap away!
Now with makeup, I wasn’t fully into makeup until I was in my last years of middle school going into high school. I started with simple mascara and lipgloss nothing to extra. Here and there I will go on a store run with my parents and buy a small eyeshadow palette to experiment and test out. I’ll say I wasn’t the best at it so I gave up and just stuck with the same things mascara and lipgloss. A few years later I was already on social media and I happened to scroll past a live video of some women doing her makeup and showing how she applied it and going in-depth of how to do it. Soon enough I was hooked! I started joining all these makeup groups full of women going on live and teaching each other their own techniques and strategies on how to apply makeup and what products they recommended. I slowly started gathering makeup from eyeshadow palettes, concealer, foundation, brushes, etc. Everything I needed to do a full face and with the years I slowly started to master how to apply makeup and do all these beautiful eyeshadow art on my own eyes and face.
Of course, as I was learning people and family started to notice and started paying me to do their makeup for special occasions or simply a night out. I will forever thank my family for their support and allowing me to do their makeup and build my portfolio. I opened up a social media account just for my looks and work I will do and post every day or every time I could, simply to create as much content as I could but because I love and enjoy doing it. As my social media grew I started getting seen and soon got hired to do makeup on a model for a photoshoot! I started at a low rate when I first started taking in clients which of course I didn’t mind because I loved doing it and enjoyed their reactions once they looked in the mirror .and that was just priceless to me. Then eventually started to get booked for events, holidays, personal events, etc. and being recommended to others as a mua.
Makeup /Fashion / Photography are truly what I love and they play such a big part in my life and I worked so hard every day and stayed consistent to get where I am today, and of course always stayed confident and never gave up! I worked every day to perfect my craft, and even to this day I’m learning but every day I learn something new and trends are always changing!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Oh absolutely not! There has been so many struggles and bumps along the way that made me just give up. Starting makeup you have so much to learn so much to explore that it just seems like your brain is running on espresso and your creativity runs free. But eventually, you get a creative block. I start asking myself, what do I do? Does this even look good? What does this go with this? And even wiping my full face of makeup because either it didn’t come out how I wanted it to or just couldn’t get the right photo. Having to learn new techniques every day means also needing new tools to do it. When I first started I was working with what had and could do sometimes I couldn’t do it because I don’t have that color in my four shade palette or I couldn’t cut my crease because I didn’t have a specific brush and eyelid space. It was frustrating but I learned and as soon as I was able to get the correct materials there I was in my desk practicing and practicing. I didn’t allow myself to get discouraged but more passionate to keep going and be patient and man has it paid off now!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Let’s just go ahead and say I am a content creator and Makeup artist. I am known for a lot of things from how I do makeup, wigs, my style and fashion looks, creative mind and photography skills. But mainly I would say I’m known for makeup and fashion for now. I am most proud of being recognized or known for what I love doing and wanting me to work with them or being hired/booked for their special days. Honestly, I believe everyone has something that sets them apart from each other . I have multiple talents that I enjoy doing and a creative mind that just makes me unique to others, I guess I’m just being me!
What were you like growing up?
Ahh, that’s a tough one because I’m now currently 24 years old and slowly forgetting how I grew up, I know crazy! But what I can remember is I grew up in a ranch full of animals and surrounded by family and friends. I was a wild child indeed, but more free! I had a lot of cousins around me and near our house so we will always get together and do something. We would ride bikes all down and up our street. Play volleyball, tag, cops and robbers, kickball, play school, create paper crafts, write poems, go swimming, walk the woods and even get in the lake get all muddy and dirty! It was so much fun and it was such a freeing childhood because all the houses next to our ranch was full of family and friends so imagine a street where the whole right side was nothing but people you know, zero worries in the world! Growing up my personality changed a lot, as I child I was very active, creative and happy but I was also very aggressive, sneaky, and didn’t behave lol But I eventually grew out of that phase and slowly became more aware I would say of my wrongs doings lol.
My interest at the time was doing nails, yeah I remember I would carry around this small white basket with a small variety of nail polish colors and nail polish art colors (the small brush nail polish). I would ask everyone if anyone wanted me to do their nails or if they let me do them and I would sit there and paint nails and love it very much! I loved to dance (still do) but my sister, cousins, friends and me will create dance routines in our house and perform them to each other. I was also into sports I joined basketball and track in middle school and high school and was pretty good at both of those sports. I was such an explorer and open to new ideas and create so many things to play with. To sum it all up, growing up I was always had family around to explore and try new things with, even though some weren’t so great and some came with consequences I took the risk and did it anyway because I was so curious!
