Today we’d like to introduce you to MC Buddha.
Hi MC Buddha, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started from humble beginnings. I had always wanted to be a rapper from since I could even remember wanting to be anything. I always used to write little songs or poems when I was younger and my peers and even some portions of my family never believed in my future success as a recording artist. I recorded my first song in 2012 before I went to college at Tarleton State University, my experiences there led me to be able to create several mixtapes and develop my flow, sound & songwriting.
I relocated to North Austin in 2018 & being in the city has really elevated my music quality as well as status within the industry overall. I always tell other up and coming artists the strategy that I implemented early on, I made sure that I “stayed in their face”, meaning I was everywhere. There was hardly an event, show, or music video shoot that I didn’t pop up at, even if I didn’t know anyone there at the time. Then people began recognizing me on the street and at events because they knew they had seen me somewhere before, even if they didn’t know exactly who I was.
Since being in Austin, I have also started a media and events organization called RARE EVENTS, where we have a podcast called The RARE Review, you can find most of our content now on Instagram @rare.xperience. My team and I also just launched our non-profit Austin Artist Roundtable, where artists become members in order to pool resources to benefit their careers. We also just created a new modeling publication Baddies ATX @baddiesatx where we share content from beautiful aspiring women and help them with content creation services.
I am a Recording Artist first and foremost, however I also am so much more and do so much more; whether it’s throwing networking events, open mics, hosting shows, interviewing artists and other entrepreneurs, etc.
It’s really always just been me and my mom growing up & then I moved her in with me in 2015 when she became sick and still take care of her to this day. She has always believed in me when sometimes I didn’t even believe in myself.
New single “Momma’s Boy” by MC Buddha out now everywhere!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
HA! I don’t know if a smooth road exists for anyone in any industry. Everyone is met with their own challenges, both career-wise and in their personal life. In my opinion, the different areas of our lives have such an astounding effect on other areas that it is hard to separate them. Thus for me, the life of an artist; I face time constraints, being able to find balance between work and home life, having healthy relationships both intimate & platonic, the responsibilities of caring for another person, finding time for my own self-care & happiness, the financial ebb & flow while scouring for the diamond mine that will provide for my marketing budget for my music & my lifestyle. However, all of these obstacles and challenges really do create the experiences that fuel the inspiration behind the words. The desired outcome is that hopefully someone can relate to my pain, sorrows, anxiety, joy and optimism in their own ways and find new strength and healing through me.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I go by MC Buddha, my friends and fans also refer to me as Buddha Maine! I’m a Recording Artist, I specialize in Hip-Hop/Rap/R&B Alternative. My 3 Singles that have generated the most notoriety for my brand are “Bird Ft. CP Loony”, “Swag Attack ft. Eazy Boi”, & “Like It’s Nothing Ft. Quin NFN.”
I am also the founder of our media company RARE EVENTS & The RARE Review, our nonprofit for artists & creatives the Austin Artist Roundtable & our newest modeling and adult blog Baddies ATX.
I believe that my branding, image, hustle, intentions, interactions, vibe & charisma separates me from others in the same industries.
We are the #RealestOut on this side Maine! What I mean by that is that we try our very best possible to move with good intentions, keep our word, do right by others, offer assistance & advice to others when needed & we are REAL & TRUE selves out here everyday. We don’t pretend for anyone.
I’m most proud of how far I have come since this all began.
