Check Out Michelle Megie’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Megie.

Hi Michelle, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I began my journey as a kindergarten teacher—a girl with a big heart for helping others and a growing passion for skincare. My obsession with skin health started when I was 19 and struggling with hormonal cystic acne. The pain was not only physical but deeply emotional. There were days I didn’t want to leave the house, and even my students would innocently point it out. Strangers, too, offered their unsolicited advice: “Eat more vegetables!” or “Maybe wash your face?”—comments that chipped away at my self-esteem.

I tried the medical route, but it felt impersonal, like I was just another number in a waiting room. I was prescribed antibiotics that only masked the issue and left me feeling unwell. Thankfully, my mother—who worked as a massage therapist—booked me a series of chemical peels with her esthetician friend. That experience changed everything.

During those treatments, I learned the science behind skincare: the role of acids, understanding different skin types, and how lifestyle habits affect the skin from the inside out. I followed her advice diligently, cutting out sugary drinks and dairy (though cheese remains my occasional weakness-what can I say? -I’m Human!), and within two years, I completely transformed my skin. It was hard work, but it was worth every bit of effort.

While I continued teaching, the COVID-19 pandemic hit and changed everything. I realized that teaching through a screen wasn’t for me. With encouragement from my now-husband, I decided to pursue my long-time passion and enrolled in Texas Laser and Aesthetics in South Austin. It was the perfect choice. There, I gained hands-on experience with clients, learned both the relaxing and medical aspects of skincare, and became well-versed in cutting-edge technology within the aesthetics field.

After graduating eight months later, I landed my first position at one of Austin’s top luxury destinations—Lake Austin Spa & Resort—where I continue to work proudly to this day. I’ve been fortunate to learn from incredible mentors, refine my craft, and connect deeply with clients from all walks of life.

In addition to my work at the spa, I also co-own a private practice where I create more intimate, personalized experiences for my clients. My goal is to continue learning, growing, and, most importantly, helping others feel confident in their own skin. Having walked through my own struggles, I understand how overwhelming this industry can be. My mission is to empower others—to remind them that even in our greatest weaknesses, there is always power when approached with care, understanding, and love.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I think the biggest challenge for me initially was learning to believe in my own abilities—especially when it came to the facial massage portion of the work. The aesthetics industry often carries the pressure of fitting into a mold that society has conditioned us to see as “worthy,” and coming to terms with that was difficult at first.

Another challenge was adjusting to the expectation of going above and beyond for every guest. Each person comes with their own needs, expectations, and even biases, which can take time to navigate with grace and professionalism.

Finally, I had to learn how to let go emotionally and not absorb the feelings of my clients. People are often vulnerable during these treatments, and many open up as a way of releasing what they’re holding onto. Learning to create space for them while maintaining my own emotional boundaries has been an important part of my growth.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an Aesthetician who primarily works at Lake Austin Spa & Resort and also co-owns a private practice.

I specialize in a variety of facial treatments, including Hydrafacials, European Facials, Lymphatic Drainage Facials, Luxury Facials (featuring Valmont, a luxury skincare line exclusive to Lake Austin Spa & Resort), Chemical Peels, Body Scrubs, Scalp Massages, and Energy Work (Reiki).

One of the things I’m most proud of is my background in teaching, which has greatly enhanced my ability to explain skincare concepts in a clear and engaging way for curious clients. I believe my authenticity truly sets me apart from my colleagues, along with my personal skincare journey, which allows me to connect with clients on a deeper, more empathetic level.

I welcome all perspectives on beauty and strive to create a comforting, judgment-free environment where people can fully be themselves. My intuition is often very strong when working with clients, and I believe the combination of these qualities has played a key role in my success within the aesthetics industry.

How do you define success?
Embracing your authentic self, cultivating meaningful connections with others, and remaining open to new tools for personal growth—all of which naturally enhance your quality of life and positively influence those around you.
